UMBRAE CRUCIATUS IMMANIS Spoken Word by September Lyra Raven UMBRAE CRUCIATUS IMMANIS: THE SHADOW FIGURES Spoken Word by September Lyra Raven As the spooky season is all around us, enjoy this spoken word sound art about nightmarish shadow figures haunting a man endlessly. Read along to the complete text below. His eyes fell like stones dropped from the ceiling of a damp cave. He lay, resting and hoping for a quiet descent to slumber Yet he deeply feared, to the marrow of each of his fragile bones, to achieve sleep. Without a fight, even without effort to surrender. Dread paralyzed him from head to toe. While sleep should be no Herculean task, he felt as if he struggled tirelessly to achieve any quality rest. For he knew they would arrive without warning, violently peeling away layers of sanity and security in a manner that was methodically chilling. The shadow figures have invaded his dreams, eroding his personality, sabotaging his sanity, and stripping away the last threads of hope that he kept alive. No instant jolt of surprise would be such a culprit to his unfathomable dread. No. It was a glacial, gradual catalyst that would dim each light of composure within and provoke a subtle dread - one that would be impossible to ignore and one that would begin to smother each and every bit of his own sense of security. Each night he prayed for help before each slumber. Many days, he would speak to different relatives, doctors, and counselors to gain more potential clarity. Yet all gave him the same answer: that none of it could be true. He was merely having nightmares in a deep sleep due to a poor diet or potentially hallucinating from any of the prescriptions he was taking. He had no known vices or addictions to any illicit substances. He had no known allergies to any animals, plants, or toxins. He never had an incorrigible attitude or insolent mindset. He never displayed reprehensible or outright contemptible behavior towards anyone. Thus, he felt even more terrified of his own state of suffering since he felt that none of this horrid torment was warranted in the slightest. Regardless of his feelings, the shadow figures waited for him. Pitilessly preying on his sanity, slowly depleting his contentment, and preparing to further dim each and every light within the vast room of his mind until it was a void of abysmal darkness.” Stream the entire album: cucurbitophobia.bandcamp.com Buy CD and Vinyl: cucurbitophobia.com Thank you so much for all of your support. Red-orange trees are one of the coolest sights to see during Autumn in my opinion.

#throwbackthursday "Cloak of Twilight" is a track I composed in 2022 for this time of the year. If you're a creature of the night, perhaps you'd like to have a dose of darksynth to embellish fully in the mood of the season cucurbitophobia.bandcamp.com… #darksynth #halloween

Halloween is not merely about costumes for me (although they’re really fun). In my eyes, Halloween is an annual reminder to always appreciate the macabre in art. To recognize beauty in grotesque imagery, sounds, and literature. To find harmony in the asymmetrical, discordant aspects of nature and life that are usually ignored or willfully abandoned by the masses.

Incredibly tough choice for me! I delightfully enjoyed each of these movies for the immense dread, unsettling sound design, and psychological mindfuck. I’m very much looking forward to seeing how the story continues in the next installment.

Some incredible Halloween themed art, painted by a real human. Never thought I’d be saying this, but with all of this fucking AI horseshit, it’s refreshing to see that there are still actual people creating actual art.
