Intelligent Operating System A club's competitive advantage is not merely the quality of its players, facilities or coaches. It is the quality of the methodology and system that helps all of them learn together. #TOVO

Distances when attacking Itโ€™s been said that the attacking team should make the attacking space as big as possible. However, a short distance between teammates helps them fool nearby defenders with counter-movements or fakes that create an advantage.

It's Friday and that means I've updated our Who to Follow directory again. It now includes 76 coaches, educators, organisations and resources from across the game. Weโ€™re not going to tell you who weโ€™ve added. Youโ€™ll have to go and find out. The reason we built this is simple: โคท There are good people sharing useful ideas every day, but finding them amongst everything else on social media can be difficult. So weโ€™re putting them in one place. Search by name, filter by platform and see who you might be missing. thesportingresource.co.uk/coโ€ฆ Go and find your next follow.

โ€œYou only hate MLS because youโ€™re a eurosnob.โ€ No. I dislike it because itโ€™s fake. Itโ€™s a product engineered in boardrooms. Expansion teams, manufactured rivalries, designated players, plastic atmosphere. WWE on grass. Authenticity isnโ€™t about marketing. You either have it or you donโ€™t.

After what's been a pretty stressful few weeks, it's time to relax and recharge the batteries for a few days. Even when you do something that you love for a job, there are times when you need to take a break and enjoy life outside of football for a while.

Doing the UEFA B Licence? Keep this one page handy. In the 2025 course guidance, the four tactical themes are attacking combinations in central areas, attacking combinations in wide areas, defending in central areas and defending in wide areas, across 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 and 3-5-2. Courses differ between associations, and it doesn't replace your course material. Save it for your next planning night.

If your players arenโ€™t moving off the ball, add this one rule. They must complete a pass before they can score. Watch what happens. Players start finding space, supporting the ball, moving with purpose. One rule. Completely different session. Follow for daily coaching tips โšฝ

Having spent over 10 years coaching across all age groups, here is my view on how to ensure we create a positive environment around our sessions ๐Ÿ‘‡ โ†’ Before the session โ€ข Greet players and ensure everyone feels included. โ€ข Be approachable and notice how the players arrive, not just focusing on those that are on time. โ€ข Set out expectations around respect and behaviour. โ†’ During the session โ€ข Ensure that every player has the opportunity to participate, learn and enjoy themselves. โ€ข Praise effort, improvement and good decisions, not just goals, wins and the best players. โ€ข Take action if someone is being mocked, excluded or made to feel uncomfortable. โ€ข Remain calm under pressure and lead by example. โ†’ After the session โ€ข Finish on a positive note so that players leave feeling that they have been valued, irrespective of how well they play. โ€ข Speak to parents or guardian if there is something that you need to share.

Cesc Fร bregasโ€™ Como is built on relationism in build-up and progression, bringing players together in tight spaces to exploit those dynamic relationships to attack. ๐Ÿงต Here are some Offensive Collective Principles that can be applied at every age and every level:

There are far too many players who simply dribble with their heads down. Their attention stops at the ball. This is how I help those players: itsjustasport.substack.com/pโ€ฆ

You watched your team lose the ball 23 times and miss three clear chances. Then you reviewed the footage. Are you analysing it or just watching it again?
