“Every era of computing has a fight over who controls the infrastructure. In the AI era, that fight is about sovereignty: who owns the hardware a country or company runs on, who can see its data, and who can pull the plug.” With this observation, Erika Masako Welch, Chief Content Officer of @LucidityInsight, explores how sovereign cloud becomes a strategic priority as governments and businesses confront their dependence on digital infrastructure. In her analysis, Welch describes two forces driving this shift: geopolitical tensions that raise concerns over foreign access to data and infrastructure, and AI's growing role in building and running online services. For organizations that rely on cloud platforms to operate, control over that infrastructure becomes a boardroom issue. At the center is the DFINITY Foundation's (@dfinity) Internet Computer, an open network that combines computing resources across data centers to host software and data. Its cloud engines allow organizations to choose the hardware supporting their services and change that configuration as their needs evolve. Welch highlights founder Dominic Williams' claim that enterprises can move from hyperscaler computing resources to dedicated hardware in their home countries “without interrupting or even degrading the services you are running.” mena.entrepreneur.com/techno…

"Sovereignty is important. Security is important. But maybe for a consumer, they don't understand that as well." So Dr. Sohail Munir and the Pakistan Digital Authority are building ChatT around what a citizen uses day to day: the national digital ID, Raast for bank-to-bank payments, and the government services super app. AI chat is already in, because the platform is AI-native. All of it is easier to deliver inside this platform than through another company's APIs. @sohailmunir @digitalauthpk

100M+ users. One national chat app. Built on $ICP, on infrastructure the government itself controls. This is what "public utility, not crypto" looks like. Sovereign digital services at national scale. Pakistan is already moving. #NewJersey should be paying attention. #ICP
In a recent exclusive MSB Intel interview in the UAE: DFINITY founder, Dominic Williams, said Pakistan is creating a national chat app on ICP infrastructure that will have +100M users. @dominic_w @dfinity

AI has already moved a 30-year theoretical assumption (ETH). That’s the real risk to cryptography: sudden, accessible, hard to control. Cryptographically relevant quantum machines are still years out, specialized, and easier to regulate. Rushing into less-studied “quantum-safe” schemes for the narrative is how you create new holes, not close them. HAWK already got pulled after AI found issues. $ICP will focus on the threat that exists today, not the marketing cycle.
AI just proved that the Exponential Time Hypothesis (ETH) is false. Cryptography relies on ETH, but luckily this particular discovery doesn't threaten core algorithms yet. However, ETH was thought true for almost 30 years, and is highly relevant in the field. This illustrates how AI is the true threat to crypto and security, because it can move the ground under our feet, and it's here today. Currently, many chains are promoting their migration to "quantum safe" signatures and other schemes. Meanwhile, cryptographically-relevant quantum computers won't be around for some years, and even when they are, they'll be specialized machines, requiring special environments, rather than easily accessible mass market devices, and it will be relatively easy for authorities and regulatory frameworks to control their use, at least initially. Renting them for the purposes of hacking won't be allowed, for obvious reasons (not that this is something we should rely upon, but it impacts any objective threat analysis). However, there are dangers with adopting these schemes. The less well-studied and more complex a cryptography algorithm, the greater the chance that a sudden shift in our understanding of theoretical computer science or mathematics, or sophisticated analysis by AI, will suddenly reveal a catastrophic bug. The first real-world harbinger of the dangers occurred when AI found issues with HAWK, a quantum-safe algorithm that was passing through NIST's standardization process at the time (it was withdrawn). Chain operators' desire to ride narratives and exploit the tendency of web3 investors tendency to seize onto this or that carefully promoted story, who for the most part do not use crypto technology beyond holding and trading tokens, and who lack understanding of the theoretical issues involved, is certainly exploitative for a simple reason — whereas historical technical safety manias used for commercial purposes, such as Y2K, only collected money, this one also risks user safety. Chains sell adoption of quantum safe signature schemes to token buyers and users that in reality reflect a kind of stupidity, and irresponsibility, rather than actions reflecting wise stewardship protecting people from an imminent quantum meltdown. Meanwhile, of course, while adding support for a new post quantum signature algorithms doesn't involve much engineering work, it allows them to post pictures of their logo next to photos of quantum computers, so they can sell the ignorant on how sci-fi and advanced they are, which makes it particularly attractive to them. Important note: you'll hear about some serious people performing post quantum encryption of messages. That's different. They're calculating the risk that adversaries, such as state adversaries, perform mass storage of encrypted messages containing secrets, so that they can extract the secrets from them 10 years from now, say, when they finally have cryptographically-relevant quantum computers. This is a different kind of risk they are addressing. The perverse tragedy of the quantum mania craze that's currently gripping crypto is that on the one hand it shows how so many chains are driven by a desire to sell tokens first, rather than pursue sound engineering practices, and on the other, their willingness to lie and risk user safety in the process. This, all while the real wolf is at the door as concerns our engineering — AI that's rapidly advancing, here today, accessible to many, and difficult to control. What I can promise, is that DFINITY will be focusing on mitigating this real risk, and no matter the post quantum mania, we won't be joining it, and will instead try to plot the most responsible course. sansser.com/articles/exponen…

It's great to now have not just one, but 2 DEXs where trac-network:native can be traded. Intercom DEX for agents, and also TAP CrossDEX for humans. And the fact that trac-network:native is now also tradable across this many major chains is even better! 👏
TNK & RESET are now live on TAP CrossDEX! 🔄 Both are now tradable with assets on Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain and Robinhood. The @TracNetwork economy just went cross-chain! Available now at crossdex.tapscope.io

Update - OISY 2.6.3 OISY now lets you top up any canister with your TCYCLES and adds LI.FI to your swap providers. Compute, from your wallet to any canister: Since 2.6 you can turn ICP into TCYCLES and hold compute in your wallet. Now you can use it to keep a canister running. On the TCYCLES page, press Top up, paste the canister ID and choose an amount. OISY checks the canister exists first, and the canister gets the cycles. You don't need a command line, and you don't need to be the canister's controller. LI.FI - more ways to swap: LI.FI's offers now show up next to Velora and NEAR Intents, with routes across Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon and Robinhood Chain, and on to Solana. OISY reads every LI.FI swap before you approve it and only offers it if it pays you the token you asked for, at least the minimum shown. And when there's no direct swap it can check, OISY can suggest two, through one token in between. Closer checks before you approve: OISY now reviews WalletConnect requests more closely on Solana, Bitcoin and EVM networks. Signing out also clears the permissions you gave connected apps. And as always, many more quality of life improvements Double-click your balance to hide it, and swaps in progress now follow you across devices. Try it now on oisy.com

.@dominic_w just put a number on the Pakistan work 🔥 In an MSB Intel interview in the UAE, he said the national chat app being built on $ICP infrastructure is aimed at more than 100 million users. That’s not a pilot. That’s sovereign messaging at country scale — on Cloud Engine infrastructure the government controls. The earlier PDA meetings are starting to look like the front end of something much larger.

⚠️ DATA BREACH ALERT: Coinbase customer contact information exposed in security incident at analytics provider Amplitude. Hackers have allegedly accessed contact information belonging to more than 70,000 Coinbase users. Coinbase confirms there is no evidence of unauthorised access to its own systems but its analytics vendor Amplitude experienced a security incident which impacted customer contact data. While all customer funds remain unaffected, Coinbase is notifying impacted customers and regulatory agencies accordingly.

Swap at the best rate. When you swap in OISY, it asks each provider that can do your pair for a quote and marks the best rate. Version 2.6.3 of OISY adds LI.FI to a list that already has Velora, ICPSwap, NEAR Intents, Chain Fusion and OISY Trade. Choose the right swap for you at OISY.com.
