As we start to take the covid vaccine, a reminder that the concept of inoculation which led to the first vaccine was taught by Onesimus, an enslaved man. Bc of the horrible conditions on slave ships, they learned how to prevent smallpox on their own. #superpowers #negrosoulstice

I’ve been thinking about something for a minute. It’s something I see in my patients; it’s something I see in myself. Many of our traumas have flooded us like tsunamis & have left deep scars.

What’s the word for when you’ve been saying the same thing for 400+ years but people act like it’s new info every time? It’s exhausting watching white Americans constantly act surprised everytime they re-learn that this country and leaders support #WhiteSupremacy. #Debates2020

It is very important that we do not only see our bodies as places that can be harmed but also as bodies capable of experiencing deep love, pleasure and liberation.

It’s been challenging to write about and practice pleasure these past couple of months, but I’m excited to share this piece I wrote for @WomanlyMag about my journey to Orgasmic Living. womanlymag.com/blog/orgasmic…
Whew so grateful for this #BlackinTheIvory. Because as we’re abolishing police we also need to reimagine this racist education indoctrination system.

A prof. used the Bible to defend slavery. My peers start talking about why slavery isn’t so bad. Im the only Black student. Holding back tears, I say I’d choose freedom over a well treated slavery. Prof.-some ppl can’t separate their emotions to have an intellectual conversation.

Feeling lots of feelings about the murder of #AhmaudAubrey. And my practices are allowing me to stay grounded while I grieve.

In the recent episode of hoe to housewife, I learned that things in my house are expired! I tried to make oatmeal bc it’s a “healthy” meal. I grab the brown sugar & it’s hard as rocks. It expired in 2014!? I have so many questions. I also learned that I do not like oatmeal.

This experience is unfortunately too common for folks of color in academic spaces.
This week, I experienced the blessing of completing the final classes of my academic career. This was a moment where everyone cheered, cried, and expressed their appreciation for our doctoral journey to date. But as I look at this picture, I'm confronted with a mix of feelings

I severely need a vacation from whiteness. More than my job(s), surviving, navigating, understanding, and deconstructing whiteness is where most of my labor, time, & energy goes. I’ve been doing this work since childhood & I need/deserve some time off.

Our moral binary prevents us from seeing ourselves and others as complex beings, capable of doing transformative and traumatic things. I believe this stems from Christianity where Jesus was seen as the perfect being. Prior, all deities, even God had loving and harmful moments.

We saw this during Mike Brown’s case where people couldn’t see Darren Wilson as a racist murderer because he was a good husband and father. When we couldn’t understand that Bill Cosby can be a great comedian and a serial rapist.

And why we can’t hold conversations that immortalize Kobe for all he accomplished on this earth and acknowledge the harm he caused others. We are not all good or all bad beings. Don’t let ideals of moral binary keep you from seeing all of us as complex beings.

Happy #polyamorous awareness! Thanks to a conversation with @dalychia and an article by @neuronbomb , I've learned that there has been a request by at least some of the #polynesian community to move away from… instagram.com/p/B5Rh3hVpkmM/…
