Replying to @KanchanGupta @DrSYQuraishi
Dada, I did. As a media stalwart, you know why it’s important to talk to Dr SY Quraishi in the press context. No recent CEC has framed the world’s largest election so positively & usefully for global audiences, via SVEEP, National Voters’ Day, IIIDEM, & as IDEA’s Global Ambassador of Democracy. He has been the (unofficial) global ambassador of Indian democracy.
His books (An Undocumented Wonder, The Great March of Democracy, India’s Experiment with Democracy, Democracy’s Heartland) document both the machinery and the unfinished reforms.
Why is this institutional memory largely missing from today’s debates on rolls, SIR, appointments & integrity?
Thanks for watching.

In drought-hit Maharashtra, thousands working under VB-G RAM G scheme - on paper
On ground, @tabassum_b found no workers at five sites in Beed. Those named on the muster roll were not aware of work orders issued against their names. Nor did they know where their wages were being credited.

VB-G RAM G scheme is a scam, at least in Beed. The scheme was being manipulated to add fake attendance, fake work sites. We traced 47 workers in 5 sites & found that they didnt know their name was listed. Crores are being siphoned off. Read the story here.

On paper we saw that the employment scheme VB-G RAM G was working really well... Out of 76,822 workers in Maharashtra, more than half – 40,267 – were from Beed alone on October 4.
Scroll investigated these workers.

Just as it is wrong for protesters to abuse and attack journalists, journalists heckling the leaders of a protest movement is a breach of the very same professional responsibility.
Our job as reporters is to listen, ask questions and report on the story — not become active participants in it. Journalists resorting to theatre and abuse during press conferences is plain wrong and unacceptable.
Report on the story. Don’t become the story.
Amrita Dutta retweeted
Those accusing protestors of instigating "regime change" might want to listen to what ordinary people, who have no inclination to protest, are saying about the Modi government.
(Not very pleasant things.)
