So, some personal news. But certainly not breaking news (perhaps fitting for the end of my journalism career). Wanna thank everyone who has read my Orioles coverage for nearly 3 decades. I’ll still be writing and posting on occasion. And may have a book or 2 in me:

Interesting tidbit: if Guardians win Sat, MLB's final four will consist of the MLB franchise with the longest current title drought (Cleveland, 1948), two clubs with no WS titles in Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers and the team that has won the last two WS in the Dodgers.

Weird. I spent all morning scanning talk shows and didn't see the guy who reached over the fence and interfered with a ball in play at Yankee Stadium being interviewed. Wonder why.

FYI, if I were Elias, I wouldve taken Adley at No. 1, too, even w Witt there. Adley was a generational talent/supreme leader at hardest position to fill. But injuries happen. Adley has time to rewrite his legacy, but not Mike's w O's. He'll have to do that himself if there's time
I wrote in 2019 that what Mike Elias did with the No. 1 pick and how it played out would define his legacy as O's GM. I stand by that statement. Rutschman's solid but unspectacular O's career mirrored Elias'. Some good moments but not nearly what was expected with the hype.

The full return for Adley Rutschman, per source: Anthony Eyanson Enddy Azocar Kyson Witherspoon Carlos Narvaez Correct: Harold Rivas not in this trade.
The Orioles have traded catcher Adley Rutschman to the Boston Red Sox, per source. @JeffPassan was first. Mike Elias has traded away his franchise cornerstone to an AL East rival.

So, some of my friends in the Great North are unamused by this stat and/or me. I just think it's crazy odd. Second oddest sports factoid behind this one: Only one franchise has ever drafted two NFL HOF quartebacks in one draft: The Kansas City Royals in 1979.
It's official. The Montreal Canadiens are out of the playoffs and my favorite stat holds for another year. A U.S. team has won the Canadian Football League's Grey Cup (Baltimore Stallions, 1995) more recently than a Canadian team has won the NHL's Stanley Cup (Montreal, 1993).

My 1st thought: Oof. Parent club of the Miami Hurricanes? I would have loved to have been in the meeting where the following was uttered: "Let's have a fresh color scheme this time. How about, hear me out, cream & green with orange trim?" Did the Os just put the stoop in stoopid?

I am late to this party. But congrats Gerry with a G on a tremendous career. Baltimore really has been blessed with a cadre of local TV sportscasters who also happened to be true gentleman. They all walked in the shadow of Vince and followed suit expertly.
Welcome to the next chapter, Gerry! It was a joy to work with you in those “good ol days” of TV. No more deadlines or producers cutting your sportscast time. It’s time to give fully to the things that really matter. Cheers, brother 🍻❗️

I no longer have spring training photos to post, but here's a cool sportsesque feature I did at my current job: A profile of photographer Dan Dry, who is rehabbing from a knee replacement and will shoot his 48th consecutive Kentucky Derby in May. kort.com/why-choose-us/succe…

My annual Super Bowl prediction. I think I've hit 5 straight. Entertainment purposes only. It's tough. And I've seen different #s. But if we're sticking w over-under of 2:00, take Charlie Puth to go under. If it's 1:54 or so, go over. Piano players tend to play anthems straight

I'm sickened: by the shuttering of WaPo sports; by wildly talented friends losing jobs; by the erosion of print journalism and above-poverty-line journalism jobs; by corporate greed; by many Americans not understanding what they're losing. But mostly I'm sickened by what's next.

I've already seen several "whoever voted for Markakis for HOF should have his vote taken away." Well, that would be me. I revealed why in this piece last week & I stand by it: A hat-tip vote for a guy who stood for the right things in the game. He didn't deserve to be shut out.

Carlos Beltran & Andruw Jones join Jeff Kent in 2026's Hall of Fame class. Manny Ramirez, despite having unquestioned HOF numbers, fails in his finale on writers' ballot cuz of his 2 + drug tests. Someone did with Alex Gordon what I did with Nick Markakis. Each got a hat-tip vote

I emerged from sportswriting hibernation for a day to write about my 2026 Hall of Fame ballot. It's a hard one, filled with borderlines. I also did something I've never done and likely won't again. Vote for someone simply to honor his career a final time. baltimorebaseball.com/sports…

Last game of the season. Free baseball. My condolences to the scribes trying to cover this. Brutal. For everyone else. This is awesome.
