Relatedly, new review! @TrendsBiochem
It's often assumed that oxygen is required for eukaryotic metabolism, but early eukaryotes emerged when oxygen was scarce. Their descendants use a remarkable diversity of anaerobic electron acceptors.

New preprint! biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
We uncovered surprising roles for a little-known metabolic pathway, branched-chain amino acid fermentation, with implications for hypoxia, mitochondrial dysfunction, alcohol toxicity, and fertility.

Excited to share our new preprint identifying THAP12 as the first transcriptional regulator of mitochondrial ETC Complex I and expanding the diseases that may benefit from hypoxia therapy. Led by the amazing Brandon Desousa and coadvised by @KampmannLab biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
Complex I is the largest complex of the electron transport chain and the entry point for electrons that power ATP production. New work from Core Investigator @ishahjain and team identifies THAP12 as a dedicated transcription factor controlling how much Complex I a cell builds.
Some very beautiful work by my colleagues in the Jain lab!! Check it out ⬇️
I am excited to share our latest preprint, in which we demonstrate that systemic hypoxia suppresses solid tumor growth.
This has been a tremendous collaborative effort in the labs of @IshaHJain and @Genophoria at @GladstoneInst, @ArcInstitute, and @UCSF.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to publish my first-author manuscript in Tissue Engineering! Our models of peripheral vascular denervation can be used to study the relationship between innervation & artery health. Thankful to my co-authors and our PI @JiangLabNU for their work.
Check out this recently published article from @JiangLabNU @NorthwesternEng on mice models for peripheral denervation to enhance vascular regeneration!

When women scientists connect and lead, the whole field moves forward. @UCSFPath's Carolyn Sangokoya saw a gap and built @MDPhDEquity to change that. Through mentorship and collaboration, she’s creating a stronger future for women in science. tiny.ucsf.edu/m4DOTy
