Why take 15 minutes when you can take 15 hours?
Effective today, we are pivoting to focus our efforts on the #15HourCity, which "represents what we think are all the best qualities of a modern city: a lack of social connections [and] a profound sense of alienation." @mcsweeneys @thedevinwallace #freedom mcsweeneys.net/articles/intr…

Downtown San Francisco is set to lose another treasured small business as the 32-year old Alexander Book Company prepares to close. Fans likely have until the end of April to say goodbye to the beloved bookstore. Meanwhile, all books are 25% off. sfstandard.com/arts-culture/…

Not only does @SecretaryPete nail the #induceddemand definition, he gives a shout-out to @VolpeUSDOT, where I worked during grad school! #transportnerd

As I straddle Twitter and #Mastodon, I run across this gem from @NilsWeisensee: “…the Fediverse’s decentralized approach to content moderation is infinitely better suited to the complexities of civil liberties and free speech than any centralized ‘super app’ can ever be." 1/2

I would love to hear @DunstanHope’s wise perspective on this. 2/2

Lots for Californians to vote on this November, and as always a fair amount of misinformation to battle. Here’s a great @TransForm_Alert blog post by my friend Stuart Cohen on the real origin story behind #Prop30. #Yeson30 transformca.org/post/not-a-c…

Not my normal subject matter, but as a #statsnerd I’m amazed at the NFL’s parity after 4 weeks. Team won-loss records are distributed even more tightly than if every game’s outcome were determined by a coin flip. (Image credit: WSCA News) #NFLparity 1/3

If all games were a 50/50 coin flip you’d expect (on average) two winless teams and two undefeated teams after 4 games. But we have only one winless team and one undefeated team. 2/3

Are the 4-0 Eagles good or are they just winning proverbial coin flips? Time will tell. 3/3

A relatively rare San Francisco example of a raised crosswalk, crossing Birch Street along Laguna in Hayes Valley. Raised crosswalks slow down vehicles by sending the message that this is the pedestrian’s “turf” #streetdesign #seenonmyride Photo credit: me 1/3

Birch Street itself is alley-width, with the new 555 Fulton condos on the left and 2- to 4-story older buildings on the right, but it still gives off a bit of that “cars are in charge here” vibe. #alleysofSF Photo credit: me 2/3

As a postscript: the saga of the scandal-plagued 555 Fulton project is too long and too ugly to recap here; for the full story track down @SFJKDineen and buy him a beer. 3/3

Let's pilot the Burrito Plan on Valencia! This whole thread is great but here's the best bit: "It's the job of planners and city leaders to prioritize according to our values, not just try to cram everything into one street design that serves all those needs terribly."

SF, San Diego, Emeryville, Oakland, Sacto, and Berkeley have all reduced or eliminated parking minimums near transit. Sign #AB2097 into law to expand this statewide, Governor @GavinNewsom. Great OpEd by @MichaelManvill6 and @zack_subin in @sfchronicle 1/2 sfchronicle.com/opinion/open…

"While local and regional governments have invested billions to expand rail service, they’ve also been quietly undermining that investment with laws that require parking everywhere. Transit works best when it serves walkable density.” 2/2
