I’m excited to share that my second novel Open Bar is available today!
Open Bar is published by @GoSparkPress and distributed by @simonschuster, and you can find more information and links to order at danschorrbooks.com in book, e-book, and audiobook formats.
Based on my experience as a New York sex crimes prosecutor and a sexual misconduct investigator for educational institutions, the novel follows the chaotic fallout when a high-profile sexual misconduct scandal rocks a prominent university.

I have spoken out against anti-Muslim hate in the Michigan Senate race. I will speak out just as loudly when the target is Jewish people.
Let me state a little-known fact: ISRAEL GETS LESS THAN 0.1 PERCENT OF THE FEDERAL BUDGET. That’s less than one tenth of a percent!
But there is an ad running that tells voters they can’t afford groceries because the United States gives so much money to Israel. In reality, the United States spends money in and on countries all around the world – but this ad singles out the Jewish state. The ad is as dangerous as it is dishonest.
You can disagree with how the United States spends money abroad. But telling hungry families that the Jewish state is the reason they are suffering is wrong and shameful.
Blaming Jews for people’s problems is an old story. Anybody who has read the last century of history knows where it leads. It is a dark pathway.
This ad is anti-Jewish hate and should come down immediately. Abdul El-Sayed should denounce it today.
A huge thank you to @survivorcbs China winner Todd Herzog @HerzogTodd for this excellent interview with my son Jake on the Jake Schorr Podcast! Todd was incredibly nice and generous with his time, and discussed his successful strategic decisions, life as a Survivor champion, and his creative custom Funko Pop business. I hope you enjoy listening to the interview:

I spoke with the @BBC about sexual misconduct, intoxication, incapacitation, and the misunderstanding that there is a "voluntary intoxication loophole" in current New York law. One of the other lawyers quoted in the article said the law should be changed because "If somebody's too drunk to drive, they're too drunk to [have sex]." This would mean that if people are too intoxicated to drive, it would be illegal for them to have sex - a very unrealistic and dangerous standard. Predatory behavior against people who are voluntarily intoxicated (but not incapacitated) is a serious problem in our society, but this is not the way to solve it. Full article here:

BREAKING: Former Deputy AG Sally Yates will lead a review of Cornell's handling of sexual assault and harassment reports, the university said. apnews.com/article/cornell-u…
When a high-profile sexual misconduct scandal engulfs a prominent university, behind-the-scenes maneuverings by campus officials, local politicians, and consulting firms may not align with providing true sensitivity and due process to the accuser and the accused. I've seen this from the inside, and wrote about it in my novel Open Bar, which was published last year by SparkPress and distributed by

Under *current* New York law, voluntary intoxication is not a "license for sexual assault" or a "defense" in sexual assault cases. As a NY sex crimes prosecutor, I successfully prosecuted many defendants for sexual assault in cases involving victims who were *voluntarily* intoxicated. It is not true that NY law currently has a "loophole" that allows voluntary intoxication to be used as "license" or "defense" for "sexual assault or gang rape." Telling people that such a "license" or "defense" exists will discourage those who experience sexual assault while voluntarily intoxicated from reporting because they may incorrectly believe there is no recourse under current NY law.
Everyone looking for an informed analysis of the Cornell situation should read this:
Having worked in #TitleIX for two decades, I think we are missing some of the most important questions in the #Cornell7 case. We’ve asked colleges to address campus sexual violence instead of the police, but without ensuring they have either the resources or the oversight to do it well. As a former New York sex crimes prosecutor, I would like everyone to know that if someone is “too intoxicated to consent,” it is ALREADY illegal under NY law for someone to engage in sexual activity with them, regardless of whether the victim was voluntarily or involuntarily intoxicated. It is dangerous to tell people otherwise.

Today on The Title IX and Civil Rights Podcast, @JackieWernz, Jenna Farrell, and I discussed the Cornell University sexual assault allegations, campus Title IX processes, law enforcement sex crimes prosecutions, understanding the differences between incapacitation and intoxication, best practices for campus trainings and process reviews, and the need for sensitivity and due process for all involved. I’m a former New York sex crimes prosecutor who now investigates and adjudicates campus sexual misconduct allegations. This story and many others that are part of the Cornell University coverage include significant misunderstandings about New York law and how it addresses sexual misconduct, intoxication, and incapacitation. There is no “voluntary intoxication loophole” in NY law. It is already illegal for someone to have sexual interactions with another person who is incapacitated due to alcohol or drugs REGARDLESS of whether the consumption was voluntary or involuntary. Additionally, it is ALWAYS illegal for someone to have any kind of non-consensual sexual activity with someone who is voluntarily intoxicated. Voluntary intoxication on the part of the accuser is NEVER a defense to a sexual assault allegation under current New York law (or campus policies).
Sex crimes prosecutions and campus sexual misconduct investigations are complicated and require sensitivity and due process for all involved. If you’re interested in better understanding the @Cornell University story, here is an interview I just did with @MargaretMcLean_ : youtube.com/watch?v=FHEZs94K…
