For months, thalassaemia patients have been struggling to get their essential iron chelation medicines. Every time supplies run out, we are given barely two weeks’ worth and told to wait again. “A shipment is coming.” “It’s on the way.” “It will arrive soon.” Yet the shortages continue.
These are not medicines we take occasionally. We need them every day, for the rest of our lives. We cannot put our illness on hold until the next shipment arrives.
And this is not just a thalassaemia problem. We recognize that medicine shortages are affecting people across the Maldives, especially those living with chronic illnesses who depend on lifelong medication and regular injections.
Patients needing treatment for osteoporosis, hormonal deficiencies, and other complications have also gone eight months or longer without essential medicines. Some manage to secure a month's supply, only to face months of uncertainty again. Interrupting certain treatments can have serious, lasting consequences. This is not merely an inconvenience; it puts people's health at risk.
We understand that establishing a new state pharmaceutical system comes with challenges. But how long can the same excuses continue? State Pharma was meant to ensure access to essential medicines. Patients deserve more than shipment announcements and empty promises. They deserve a system that delivers.
And here's what makes this even harder to accept: Parliament’s Finance Committee reportedly took just 82 minutes to approve MVR 39.5 million in annual pay rises and allowances for senior officials and over 600 island councillors. When it comes to their own salaries and benefits, decisions move fast. When it comes to patients waiting months for essential medicines, suddenly everything takes time.
If MPs cite struggling constituents to justify higher salaries, shouldn't we ask why people must turn to politicians for help with basic healthcare in the first place?
We are not asking for luxuries. We are asking for the medicines our lives and health depend on.
And to those responsible: if you cannot even ensure that people have access to essential medicines, do the country a favor and resign. Go home. If you're not willing to do that, then stop making excuses, get your act together, and do the job you're being paid to do. The public didn't elect you to make promises. They elected you to deliver.
Enough promises. Enough excuses. Patients need their medicines, not another announcement that they're on the way.

Why is the former president trying to offhandedly justify dialogue with Israel? We aren't compelled to maintain dialogue with those who're complicit in the genocide happening in Gaza.

I agree with President @MohamedNasheed that building businesses is what will develop island economies. But rural flight is a global phenomenon, and I think it's inevitable in Maldives as it's economically infeasible for us to build quality healthcare & education in every island.

Every year now air quality deteriorates significantly coinciding with the peak tourist season in Maldives.
This pollution is mainly coming from paddy straw burning by Indian farmers.
India needs to compensate us for the annual health & economic damages.
Why's the current government and the then President, under whose government this agreement was signed, both on board with this new project?

This proposed new bill is criminalizing free speech. Under this vaguely worded bill, you could be prosecuted for calling for the destruction of Israel and workers can be prosecuted for going on strike for their rights.

We welcome @MMuizzu's announcement tonight on allowing @bankofmaldives USD gateway to SMEs and tax offset on money owed by the government to SMEs.
These were issues raised by @MohamedXylam during his recent meeting with the President under the Rayyithunge Adu program.
One thing #PHP2Shell has definitely done is forced us to update/migrate old outdated servers that had been just sitting there since nothing was broken and didn't need any fixing.
We had over 100 servers that needed auditing.
Tagging @ethicalhack3r @OliverSild @photomatt and @perezbox so you can loop in @GoDaddy if you still have contacts there. And looping in @gdb because he and @eastdakota are appearing together. Guys we haven't seen a single hacked WP site from #php2shell and we're (@wordfence is) protecting over 5 million PHP/WP sites. You know the deal. If it's exploitable, we all see site cleanings. No one in cybersecurity wants to minimize a vulnerability in case it does blow up. We're seeing reports from @Cloudflare and @eastdakota of attack attempts. We're seeing attack attempts in our telemetry. But we're not seeing a single compromised site. No one wants to say that it's not exploitable against vanilla PHP because it may turn out to be. I think we all know CVSS scores are imperfect. And the messaging here is off the charts. This has gone mainstream, but no one is talking about the fact that no one is seeing hacks. It's easy to take a bow and claim industry success, "go team cyber" and all that. But you know if these things are a legit risk you'll see compromised sites. Especially in the PHP/WP space where there are a lot of individual boxes out there with owners on vacation or MIA. And nothing. Not one. So I think the conversation that needs to happen is something like this: We're going to find scary vulnerabilities with the amazing capabilities that @OpenAI and @AnthropicAI are bringing online, but we need to calibrate the messaging to take into account how exploitable and scriptable each vuln is, or we risk alert fatigue and blowing credibility which we'll badly need when an exploitable scriptable vulnerability shows up.

Cutting costs in the public healthcare sector so citizens get worse Aasandha service. While MPs getting salary raises and multi-million MVR health insurance packages.
sun.mv/229424
But the problem is your Temu orders.
Today was almost a historic day in current parliament !
MDP and PNC MPs, who somehow manage to disagree on almost everything, suddenly found common ground when it came to their special health insurance. MP Dr.Shamheed was the exception.
Since it was all on public TV, everyone began by declaring, “We don’t want anything ordinary citizens don’t get.”
But then came the excuses: “It’s not that much money,” “Previous parliaments introduced it,” and so on.
Different parties, same privileges, same excuses. Apparently, political differences disappear when MPs’ own benefits are at stake.
A huge thank you to the 7,000+ people who signed the petition and put MPs in a position where they had to publicly defend their privileges.
This is just the beginning. More petitions to come, In Sha Allah!
Don't give up. You must keep pushing until we bring MPs down from the pedestal they've placed themselves on and remind them of their rightful position: public servants, not a privileged class above the people they were elected to serve.
Parliament belongs to the people, not the MPs.
