China’s first AI-generated theatrical feature has flopped, earning just $181,000 in its first weekend. By contrast, the scrappy ‘Niu Lai’ turned its crude animation into a viral attraction, grossing nearly $10 million a couple of months ago. cartoonbrew.com/box-office-r…

The more I see thumbnails and graphics like this the more I think of casinos that are all neon lights and garish colours everywhere. I think AI does something to the brain that genuinely makes this shit appealing to people when it looks like abysmal dogshit to everyone else.
Scientists need to start studying the brain chemistry of people who think thumbnails like this look good.

How is the internet less private than in 2006, when the whole family shared one computer? Back then, the internet was weird, personal, and all of ours. So, we got your favorite meme legends back together to say it louder: What happened to the internet? 1/3

There is a real economic cost to Valve’s foray into forced political disclosures. Besides taking 30%, they’re also taking a potentially even larger fraction of developers’ revenue and livelihood by undermining their business with these AI hate campaigns.

Steam requires disclosure of generative AI for player-consumed content via its standard Content Survey (alongside ratings), shown on store pages for transparency, not as political statements. Spent the last 2 weeks in Canada, and it's immediately clear why America will keep its competitive advantage forever. Don't get me wrong, I love Canada! It's beautiful out here, and the people themselves are also lovely. But! There is a serious lack of ambition, and an enormous amount of averseness to risk in a way that is not really fixable imo

Another thing Valve does which is such a big deal for game preservation and decoupling reliance on Windows and even PC hardware is their work on Proton and financial backing of Fex, which allow you to run Windows games on Linux and mobile hardware (ARM64) respectively.
we can argue whether the value justifies the take or not (I think it does btw, Steam does _A LOT_ for you besides just hosting and collecting payment for your game), but the claiming that Valve is the _worst_ company in gaming is, to put it diplomatically, unhinged.

Valve is the worst company in gaming. In a world that has EA. They live off rent - 30% of every sale, paid by the people who actually make the games we love. They don’t make games. They only make hardware as a hedge against Microsoft. Everything is about defending the monopoly that collects the rent. The Airbnb/eBay of gaming.

Valve has developed numerous games including Half-Life, Portal, Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2, contrary to the claim. valvesoftware.com/about en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_V… steam.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_g…

Part of the reason some streamers end up being such shitty people is because of the parasocial relationships their followers develop with them.

Vivek's hubris over platforming this genuinely evil woman is going to go down in history as one of the biggest political strategy failures of all time.
Mediaite: Amy Acton’s Mother Was Convicted of Killing Kittens New information about the criminal history of Donna Arthur, the estranged mother of Ohio Democratic nominee for governor, Amy Acton, is coming to light amid the backlash about her appearance in a Vivek Ramaswamy ad — including her conviction for animal neglect after several kittens in her care died in a hot car mediaite.com/crime/amy-acton…

Consumers should be allowed to make an informed choice about the games they buy, considering most if not all of the major LLMs people use for coding were trained on copyrighted material without permission of the owners. Calling AI disclosure "political" is beyond disingenuous.

If as many people were as bothered about photoshop usage as they are about AI usage then yes, absolutely. This example only seems silly because it's something that concerns very few people, but if it did, then it would be a legitimate reason. xitter.cf/Horrorhorrie/status/21…

I really, REALLY dislike the use of Photoshop. Should I demand every company to disclose their use of Photoshop?

I'll never stop marvelling at the evolutionary process of camouflage. It's such a perfect demonstration of natural selection.
Striped cuckoo chicks have unusual plumage that makes them look like pinecones. This camouflage helps them blend into their surroundings, making it harder for predators to notice them.

The moth wings of macrocilix maia made to look like flies eating poop to ward off predators is still one of the coolest and grossest examples of nature using visual trickery for survival.
