Not everything should be easy. When everything is effortless, nothing feels meaningful anymore. That applies to games, software and pretty much everything else in life. This essay is about why friction might be a feature and not always a bug. vanschneider.com/blog/editio…

Embracing Friction

For the past decade, we designers (in particular software & UX designers) have pursued an almost singular goal: make everything easier. User-friendliness above all else was and still is our mantra....

This participation trophy shit is ridiculous. It’s all about money, not about football. CFB is a skeleton of what it once was but hey, let’s see how we can just ruin it for good. Smh…

This may be an unpopular opinion but it's the right one...expanding to 24 teams is not going to ruin college football

Please reply to this tweet about how much you hate the 24 team playoff and in 5 years i'll save the replies and show you how foolish you were.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Danny Kanell himself said “going past 12 teams in 2 years feels rushed and irrational” in July 2025 while criticizing a smaller format (16 teams) than the 24 team format x.com/dannykanell/st…

You know what REALLY sucks about my timeline of College Football diehards complaining about the expansion to 24 teams? The decision-makers don't give a damn; they are kicking their feet up today, counting dollar bills, laughing at the people who built this sport.
