Great to see Wilcox getting slaughtered by Man Utd fans after the way he deserted @southampton and left us with no plan and no players after our promotion . #Karma #wilcoxout #rattcliffeout

Disingenuous again, what a surprise. The FA rules are unchanged on this, as well you know. It's OK to admit that you are happy to overlook Bielsa's admitted (but uncharged by FA) indiscretions because he was good for your team. You don't get to pass judgement on others, though.

Once again, hypocrisy reigns supreme. We can all see and remember what you wrote about Bielsa. xitter.cf/henrywinter/status/108…
Assuming the FA doesn’t appeal the independent commission’s lenient decision to reprieve Tonda Eckert, Southampton’s head coach can count himself fortunate to escape further punishment for spying on Middlesbrough, Oxford United and Ipswich Town. A fine of £28,000 and suspended six-week ban is certainly a reprieve for the individual who devised the spying plan. It wasn’t the club’s plan. It was Eckert’s. Eckert can count himself fortunate to have a supportive owner in Dragan Solak and such a supportive fanbase, who defended him despite the damage to the reputation of their respected 140-year-old club. It’s what fans do. Passionately defend those who represent them. A price has certainly been paid. The club lost heavily in prestige, opportunity and potential riches with the EFL’s decision to remove them from last season's Championship play-off and deduct four points from the start of this season. A price will continue to be paid in the chants of opponents - Portsmouth fans visiting on Sunday - and in the depicting of the club as Wrexham’s co-owners have already done. Southampton fans have a point when highlighting the cheating scarring the game - from on-field diving to breaches of financial regulations. Just as the media highlights such excesses and calls on the authorities to take action. Part of the shock with Spygate is that you'd never associate such acts with a club like Southampton. They were a club associated historically with doing things the right way. It was one individual. By all accounts, and on the evidence of this season, Eckert is a very talented coach. Solak clearly rates him very highly, one reason he has stuck by him. Saints players clearly like him and respond to him. Eckert didn’t need to stoop to spying. He's good. The commission noted Eckert’s contrition which seems genuine. Let’s hope Eckert understands his damaging error of judgement, appreciates how lucky he is to have such a supportive owner and fans, and can now focus on rebuilding his reputation and a promising career. The broader problem here for football generally is that the FA – which failed in its push for a three-month suspension – finds its disciplinary process weakened, certainly in contrast to the EFL’s. The club has been significantly punished but there has been no additional punishment of note for the individual who devised the plan. That’s a precedent that other clubs will surely highlight when defending disrepute charges from the FA. #SaintsFC

I totally agree with this from a legal aspect . It’s the only thing that makes sense . Saints would have got the outcome last Thursday and we are in the process of appeal . It’s the way the FA work . I’d imagine the appeal will happen this week or next #SaintsFC

I’m guessing we’re in the midst of an appeal based on @LewisCoombes recent post on the timelines. I fear no news is bad news in this case, and it could still rumble on a while longer 😒 #saintsfc

'Whatever punishment he gets needs to be severe.' Cambridge United boss Neil Harris says every manager in the Football League agrees that Tonda Eckert should get a huge ban for Spygate ❌ #BBCFootball #SaintsFC

🚨 Check out Gary Lineker's latest quotes on the situation at Manchester United and he doesn't HOLD BACK on his thoughts on Sir Jim Ratcliffe: 🗣️ “I look at Man United and I see problems coming down from the top.” “I must congratulate the Glazers on finding someone even worse than them that they can blame and getting him in there and getting all the stick: Jim Ratcliffe.” “I don’t think he’s a particularly pleasant human being and it’s a bit of a shambles of a football club the way it’s being run at the moment.” “So, well done to the Glazers on that one, deflecting everything away from them!”

"Southern Water fined £2.4m over multiple incidents of sewage pollution in Kent." That of course is on top of the £7.1 million they were fined back in July, the £90 million they were fined back in 2021, or the 107 environmental offences they've been found guilty of in the last 15 years. Really, what is the point? itv.com/news/meridian/2026-0…

Isn't it amazing how issues like how dreadful VAR is or youngsters being snatched away, both become huge media issues on the same weekend, when it's a club like Manchester United on the receiving end.
JJ Gabriel is undoubtedly a very special talent but he is *checks notes* 15. Only 15. He can’t change in the seniors’ dressing-room yet. He’s not physically ready for first-team football yet. Pathways are not speed tracks. It’s about easing Gabriel in gradually, working on his physical and tactical development, growing. Because the skill is undoubtedly there. Look how Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, is gradually nurturing the talent of Max Dowman, 16: 153 minutes over six Premier League games (1 start, 5 subs) and 387 minutes over eight cup games so far (4, 4). Dowman started against Ipswich in the League Cup last night and scored twice. He played 90 minutes. Arteta knows when and where to give him games. And Dowman is more physically ready for first-team football than Gabriel. It’s sad there has been some fall-out/misunderstanding between Gabriel, his father, and Manchester United. He has asked to leave, as per @Matt_Law_DT. But wherever Gabriel goes, if they are a responsible club, and thinking of his long-term development, they won’t be starting him any time soon. He’s still developing physically. And will he settle? Real Madrid, one of the clubs he’s being linked with, would be a formidable challenge. Look before you leap. At least he is familiar with the United set-up. He’s grown up there, and still has some growing to do. Yes, he may well have been frustrated not to be involved against Sabah. And frustrated to see the injured Manuel Ugarte taking up a place in the Champions League squad. But the reported plan was to give him his debut – as United’s youngest ever player – against Brighton in the League Cup tonight. There is a pathway. United have a famous history of giving youth a chance. There will be opportunity if Gabriel shows he’s ready. Does Gabriel want to follow in the footsteps of George Best, Sir Bobby Charlton, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Marcus Rashford and co? United, understandably, want to keep a special talent and let's hope some rapprochement is possible. Michael Carrick could be central to this. His 16-year-old son is in the academy. Carrick understands the academy, the pathway and what's best for a teenager's development. For Gabriel, the timing of all this is strange anyway. He can’t move abroad until he’s 16 anyway. If he’s set on leaving, it will be far easier next summer. When Gabriel will be only *checks notes* 16. There’s no hurry.

Back on Saturday 15th August 1992, the FA Premier League kicked off. It kicked off with nine matches at 3pm (with Match Of The Day on BBC1 on the night), one game on the Sunday (LIVE on SKY), and one game on the Monday night (LIVE on SKY) Looking back, if they had left this schedule as it was, we all could have lived with it… But no, they had to ruin it, didn’t they, all in the name of MONEY! And look at the so-called BIG SIX, not a single victory among them!
