As a builder in the AI video space, I was terrified about how much markup API providers charge for simply routing the models.
Higgsfield API adds a 40% markup even with its maximum advertised discount. Fal adds 100%. Runway adds 414% (Seedance 2 480p)
I might be hated by the industry, but :
Today, we’re launching Sume API, the first image & video model provider with 0% markup.
For example with Seedance 2.5 1080p
• 50% cheaper than fal
• 50% cheaper than higgsfield api (29% even with biggest discount)
• 28.02% cheaper than kie ai
The routing infrastructure layer is never the moat. We believe that APIs should be commoditized, and the moats will be built at the application layer.
Check the pricing comparisons below, and see how the broken industry is saved.
Plans on the pricing of Sume API:
1. We're keeping 0% markup.
We've checked our prices against the foundation model providers more than 20 times. If you find any model where our price is different from what the foundation model company charges, tell me and we'll fix it.
2. "Is this business model actually sustainable?"
Yes. Even at 0% markup we're not losing money, so keeping it is not a problem. Because of the competition, video model prices will converge to 0% markup anyway. We're just doing it first.
Our plan is to bring in users by providing models, and later offer a separate SaaS product subscription that covers marketing workflows. So markup on video models stays at 0%.
3. "Kie AI is cheaper on some models?"
If you look at Kie AI, they act like they're giving big discounts on cheap models, but they put a pretty big markup on frontier models like Seedance. My guess is they heavily discount some low-usage models to look cheap, bring users in with that branding, then make their net profit from the markup on Seedance and others. We hate that kind of trick and care about transparency, so it's 0% markup on everything. No tricks.
As you know, other providers play games. The "most accessible" pricing only gets you that price if you subscribe annually to credits that expire every month. And Higgsfield looks cheap with their discount events, but when you buy top-up credits, they take a huge markup.
We learned trust is the most important thing in business. As an early startup, we're promising 0% markup to earn that trust. In return, just recommend us to your friends!

Sume's model: 0% markup on underlying AI image/video models (Seedance, Kling, Veo etc.). Pay-as-you-go top-ups from $5, no subscriptions. They pass through provider costs exactly to undercut competitors' markups (40-400%).
Strategy: commoditize the routing layer for volume/share, then monetize the application layer—full AI ad workflow agents (trend finding to posting/optimizing) built from their enterprise beta.
FAQ on Sume API
- is it really 0% markup : yup. no cap. pay as you go
- how will you make money : not from the models. our thesis is that, as Peter Thiel argues in Zero to One, perfect competition competes away profits. we think model APIs are heading in that direction, so we’re just pricing at cost before the market forces everyone else to we’re just getting there first. and probably we’ll eventually charge a "separate" SaaS subscription for workflow tools.
- does this make economic sense : if this works, we’re losing a few million dollars in potential model margins on the table at most. but if Higgsfield cuts prices to compete with us, they should be giving up hundreds of millions. so let them cut prices. that’s counter-positioning. checkmate.
- can i upload faces to Seedance? : yes. you need a “creation rights” agreement to enable that, and the agreement itself costs quite a bit. my guess is that platforms like Higgsfield put especially high markups on Seedance partly to recoup that cost. we just absorbed it and enabled face uploads anyway. getting more users matters more to us!
- what’s the long-term plan : keep offering credits at cost, grow our user base, and build services on top. especially workflow tools covering everything from ad research to campaign execution. don’t want any of that? you can just keep using the models at cost.
The APIs will be converged into original cost anyway. We're so glad to be in this kind of position.
some guy came up to me and said "hey, isn't this just a cheaper Higgsfield?"
ah well i mean...
OF COURSE IT IS

yes.
we payed the full creation rights, and not charging it to our users
unlike hig.....

the main reason I switched to higgsfield was that fal/other providers didnt seem to let me even upload an AI character sheet due to content protection (while higgsfield let me). do you solve that?
phoneuse for social media would be sick
