The Hybrid Howler breaks the front and now a subtropical storm with 65 MPH winds. Still short of a hurricane.
I have been calling this a "Hybrid Howler", but the NHC is putting an official "Subtropical" tag on the storm. So, it gets a name: Josephine. 👇 All it means is that the storm shares some characteristics of a Nor'Easter and a tropical system. Nor'Easters have warm and cold fronts, tropical systems do not. Same air mass all the way around. Either way, this one is now Josephine.
An interesting and unusual possibility for nor’easter Invest 93L: it could lose its frontal features, draw more energy from warm ocean water, develop a warm core, and potentially strengthen into a hurricane.
A big day for those that follow the earth sciences along the 83.88° W. A significant hurricane and many earthquakes.

Coming in strong.
Hurricane Isaias continues to strengthen this morning and is poised to be the first U.S. hurricane landfall in 2 years. The big question now is when does the strengthening stop? Latest models show it closing in on a Cat 4 by this afternoon. My latest ⬇️

Landfall tomorrow night with possible 5-7 feet of storm surge. Wind shear one of the levers tamping it down now and maybe even more so tomorrow. #Isaias
*Hurricane Isaias is likely to intensify next 24 hours or so...can make landfall early tomorrow night somewhere near Mobile Bay...impacts all the way to Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, NE US*

Google's AI model ran Isaias 1,000 times overnight. 642 of those runs make it a major hurricane over the Gulf.
The official forecast peaks at 110 mph, one mph short of a major hurricane.
Each dot is one run, and the pink ones are major hurricanes at that moment. Most of them reach the coast late Friday night, about 9 out of 10 on the Florida Panhandle.

Lots to cover with a very healthy-looking and organizing Invest 92L. There's a growing threat to the northern Gulf of a tropical storm or hurricane late Friday into Saturday. The latest @GoogleDeepMind takes a notably aggressive stance. All the details ⬇️

The 2026 Atlantic #hurricane season continues to be remarkably quiet, producing the least Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) to date since 1950. ACE is an integrated metric accounting for storm intensity and duration.
A very early storm could be tearing up the Mid-Atlantic. A fitting storm name might be the Greek word Proimos — meaning premature, or occurring ahead of the usual time.
Seems pretty appropriate. #Noreaster
So now a guy who doesn’t even tie his own shoelaces is wading in on how the rest of us should handle artificial intelligence. He better do it quickly, the polo match is about to start. #AI

The meat grinder of modern politics is powered by fear: keep the public terrified by an endless parade of manufactured existential threats, recast every issue as a conflict with victims and perpetrators, then condition people to rely on their leaders for safety. #AI

Tech fearmongering has been popular for decades. The world’s financial, food, transportation and other systems were all supposedly facing collapse 26 years ago. It was one of the most overhyped events of our lifetime. I still have Y2K Spam in my basement.

Both the @FAA and @FCC have been over regulating drone activities and slowly squeezing out uses. Most all of this is explained as “unacceptable national security risks.” Because security threats will follow our laws?

The North Atlantic seems unusually quiet this season. We are now roughly 13 days since the last tropical storm. September is no stranger to some long gaps between named storms over the years. #HurricaneSeason2026

44 million birds crossed Kentucky last night. Another 42 million crossed Tennessee.
A lot of y’all said those radar blooms couldn’t be birds.
They were.
Radar sends out two signals, one horizontal and one vertical. Rain reflects them almost the same. Birds don’t.
That’s why storms in South Dakota showed up purple, while the birds over Kentucky showed up orange.
And the reason the blooms hug the radar sites? The beam gets higher the farther it travels. Most migrating birds are only a couple thousand feet up, so radar sees them best nearby.
Summer 2026 turns out to the be the "4th Hottest on Record" much overlooked is #1. 1936 has held up for 90 years as the hottest year. Lack of satellites during that period keeps the focus on more recent eras.
For the love of Zeus, I hope Apple's new major update 27.X coming for devices improves power consumption. This last big update 26.6.X six weeks ago is still just crushing batteries in all my devices. @Apple
Pretty amazing how effectively ChatGPT Sites can create a simple weather dashboard with just a couple prompts. But with Astra 6 Light I hit my limit pretty quickly once I started making enhancements.
