The WTU is grateful for our members and national @AFTunion leaders who came out from around the country to help us celebrate WorldPride in the nation's capital. Thank you also to AFT President Randi Weingarten @rweingarten, who joined us for the WorldPride Parade and Street Festival.
On day one of the WorldPride Street Festival we gave out 1,000 books of choice to children and their families. Rain or shine, we will be giving out more free books today!

Education is an opportunity agent, and federal support should not be used as a piggy bank to defund our already underfunded public schools and give billionaires another tax cut. https://teapawt.org/t.co/uhbQGgCt1J #HandsOffPublicSchools

βWe are shining the light on the shadowy practices of the charter industry.β β CTU Vice President Jackson Potter
Charter operators like Acero have hoardedΒ millionsΒ in public dollars while claiming they have to close 7 campuses because of lack of funds. For too long, CPS charter oversight has failedβallowing privatization, financial mismanagement, and anti-union retaliation to go unchecked.
But on Thursday, the Chicago Board of Education voted to change that.
The BoardΒ passedΒ a landmark resolution to demandΒ real transparency and accountabilityΒ from charter schools. This vote is a direct response to the findings in our new report,Β βUnchartered Territoryβ, and to the organizing led by parents, students and educators demanding change.
We reveal the truth about the charter industry's dark money, shady vendor deals, and hoarded reserves. Acero alone had nearly $50 million in reservesβwhile they tell their students their sports programs will be cut. Weβre calling out the corporate playbook that mimics Elon Musk and Donald Trump, funneling public funds into private pockets while silencing student, parent, and educator voices.
This win is just the beginning. Now itβs time toΒ enforceΒ the oversight, protect our students, and ensure charters can no longer operate above the law.

Glad they were finally able to make the real government waste, fraud, and abuse leave.
A few weeks ago St. Louis was hit by tornadoes. I'd been in contact with our local and have been working to help members who lost their homes. Today I saw the devastation in person. It's incredible to me that such a devastating disaster barely caught the national attention.

This is better than any speech from a politician weβve heard recently ππΎππΎππΎ
This is the press conference of someone whoβs losing. This race is between Harris-Walz & their vision for a better future & grievance driven Trump-Vance who just want to lie & cut taxes 4 the wealthy. Trump lost 3 million jobs, did squat on infrastructure & stopped the bipartisan bill to secure the border. We're not going back.

We look forward to getting this bill to the Senate floor- it will help restore social security to thousands of public employees
π¨π¨ Our Social Security Fairness Act has 62 Senate cosponsors.
Weβve been fighting for this for years β itβs time to put our bipartisan bill up for a vote and #RestoreSocialSecurity in full for millions of public servants across our country.
When the history books are written about this moment, let them record that we the people united, mobilized and voted down this existential threat to democracy and freedom. That we continued the march for progress. That we laid the foundation for a better future. And that we sought to create a more perfect union. #RealSolutions
