Decided to step back in time tonight. I and my two siblings were brought up by our mum after a very heavy family divorce involving the police, and being in care for a little while. My heroic mum did all she could for us on her own. We even sold the apples off a tree in the garden of our council house door to door, so we could eat. There vertually no social services back then. How she managed I will never know. Every now and then when we were out in a shopping precinct near us, she would take us in to the co.op cafe and buy us this special treat ...(egg, chips and peas with a slice of bread and butter) I can't tell what a treat it was for us kids. She did this with next to nothing, and three kids to feed. She died young of breast cancer. But I have never forgotten this meal, and tonight, with my wife at work, I decided to make it as I remember it. It was delicious. God bless you my dear mum, I will never forget what you did for us x
