I went to Howard University with Donny Hathaway, and a group of us from the Fine Arts Dept used to hang out at a DC club – Mr. Henry’s where she was playing. She and Donny hooked up to record together and the rest made music history...

I’m not and never will be a celebrant of Washington’s birth. I will never forget that he was a slaveholder. Eleven other U.S. presidents also enslaved people during their lifetimes; Washington, along with seven others, enslaved people while president.

George Washington sold men he enslaved to the West Indies for punishment. Given the harsh treatment of enslaved people there – it was a death sentence (and he knew it)
