The biggest vr failed is not what you think (& how to fix it)
Vr would have been bigger than ai if the vision for it would not have been on classic gaming (not metaverse) + the ability to easily adjust headset to see real world & share experience on tv
Market would have grown
How to make a hit game without getting lucky:
Biggest misstake. Aim to build the most innovative big game ever.
Instead
Aim to be as small as possible. Why? Sounds counterintuitive. But this is y netflix became big
Build one path. From marketing. To main menu. To first 5 min.
The price of 20 vs 8 usd makes zero difference in purchase apetite
Indies who think so, wont make it
I think gaming is the best industry to make generational wealth
But gamers hate talking about money, while its one of the biggest markets
Those who truly make it understand its about passion
But they also understand its a business, follow the money by understanding the gap
Will netflication of gaming happen?
Remember how good the 90s blockbuster movies were?
What happened to them? Neflix and too much media
No more risky blockbuster movies
That makes me wonder if gaming will face the same, or will there be one major difference - indies
The billion dollar gaming opportunity is indie games
The model for AAA has structuraly broken
Big studios cant take risks anymore cause historical success, '10s is not there anymore
This is why all AAA games are boring
This gives one man teams MASSIVE edge, if you understand
Whats the milloin $ recipe for solo indies developing and marketing game?
- Inhouse marketing?
- outsource marketing?
- UGC?
- Influencers?
- give away 50% to publisher / investor?
Dev and marketing is one piece, but what about ICP, sustainable cash flow and runway?
Replying to @deceptivegame
Marketing is terrible when it comes to smaller dev teams. Which I understand they’re working on the game but they’re doing themselves a huge disservice by not marketing correctly
VR is dead.
I keep hearing that.
As I work in AI and DR has been on the sidelines.
I logged in on X, and asked who's still in VR and got immediate engamement, even from Naval.
I'm shocked on how not dead VR is (Quest & PSVR and even Steam).
A big mistake indie game devs do is just focus on dev, not thinking about ICP, runway, bring able to scale down, unit economics, funding and GTM.
Most indie games disappear the moment development stops.
Deceptive Reality survived this far.
I still think about that a lot.
The biggest mistake we made building Deceptive Reality was trying to build the future all at once.
Too much scope.
Too many systems.
Too much ambition before sustainability.
I’d build very differently today.
What’s strange is that Deceptive Reality feels more relevant now than when we first built it.
AI.
Inequality.
Digital identity.
Brain-chip storylines.
Synthetic relationships.
Cyberpunk stopped feeling fictional.
After going bankrupt,
I thought Deceptive Reality was over.
But the community never really left.
Tens of thousands of players kept the world alive without us.
Then I woke up and saw Naval Ravikant liked one of my posts.
This game was vibe coded in 5 minutes 🤯 You gotta try it out to believe for yourself
We’re approaching AGI… so I wondered:
What would Marx think of Amodei?
I turned the debate into a tiny game.
⚔️ Capital Wars: Marx vs Amodei

They called it the most cinematic VR game ever made.
But it’s not a movie.
🎥 You are the assassin.
We went bankrupt.
5 years of building Deceptive Reality — gone.
We shut off the lights, made it free still kept updating.
Yesterday I was shocked to see it's 4th most downloaded app on @MetaQuestVR
Tend of thousands active players and massive amount of reviews.
Happy 2026!
