The White Fragility Scale can help us identify - and address - when we find it hard to talk about racism
I promised I’d share it on today’s Bad People ep: bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0bqs8l…
Note, if the existence of the scale makes you uncomfortable, that’s the epitome of white fragility

Can we stop making body image about personal choice?
When your body is oppressed and it’s a barrier to receiving healthcare, employment, travel, safety, clothes, etc - it’s not a matter of just learning to love yourself. – at Brooklyn, NY

[TW EATING DISORDER, HEALTH]
Veganism/anti-speciesism isn’t a health movement
Saying “stay lean” in response to a meal pic can be dangerous. I had an eating disorder growing up & know that hearing this can be so damaging. I’m recovered but it’s beside the point - DO NOT DO THIS

Can some video games, like @animalcrossing, help us practice mindfulness, keep us connected, and manage our mental health? Definitely food for thought! bit.ly/34z9V6w #mentalhealth #gaming #AnimalCrossingNewHorizions

it's okay to find a diet (even a sorta fringe one) that you like and works for you
it's very different to mount a massive media platform to promote that diet to everyone as the One, True Diet (usually without ever mentioning the risks and side effects)
see the difference?

Replying to @weightwatchers
@weightwatchers is well aware that they are more successful at weight cycling than weight loss. The idea that they are solving a problem they help to create by teaching kids to diet would be laughable if it weren’t so upsetting. #wakeupweightwatchers

You don’t need to be at your worst to have a valid struggle. Your eating disorder is lying when it says that you’ve been worse, have been in more pain, and are thereby, undeserving of support.

If you've been dieting or restricting yourself, the body mutes hunger signals, so a growling stomach probably won't be your first sign.
Subtle hunger signals to look for:
- Thoughts of food
- Moodiness
- Sleepiness
- Losing focus
- Short temper
- Feeling anxious or chaotic

The idea that someone shouldn’t be celebrated because they may or may not get diabetes one day is some low level, simpleminded nonsense. It really sends the message that fatness is counteractive to success and respect.
