Managers almost always dial down a competition’s importance the moment they’re eliminated from it , it’s standard damage control.
Alonso’s shift from “we’re taking it seriously” to “least important, PL is the main focus” is predictable, especially with no European football and a heavy league schedule ahead.
Still, the wording lands poorly when the squad is deep enough that the Carabao Cup was a realistic route to silverware and a chance to build momentum.
Prioritising the league is sensible; framing the cup as almost irrelevant after exiting it just invites the exact reaction this post is giving.
