The Economist states that 🇸🇦Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) is facing an “annus horribilis” as three of his core, long-term strategic gambles fail simultaneously: his military campaign against the Houthis, his economic transformation via Vision 2030, and his reliance on 🇺🇸Donald Trump as a reliable ally.
MBS’s decade-old gamble that he could easily defeat the Houthi movement in 🇾🇪Yemen has severely backfired. The Houthis have launched devastating drone and missile attacks directly into Saudi Arabia, targeting infrastructure including Riyadh’s International Airport, which was effectively shut down following deadly strikes.
A truce brokered in 2022 broke down completely during the summer of 2026, exacerbated by broader regional conflicts involving US and 🇮🇷Iran.
The Houthis have seized additional territory, leaving Riyadh with only poor alternatives: enter a bloody ground war, continue ineffective air strikes, or sign a deal that permanently cements Houthi rule on their border.
The economic crisis amid the Iran war is stalling MBS’s so called “Vision 2030” which was supposed to pivot the Saudi economy away from oil.
While IMF initially projected the Saudi economy to grow by 4% in 2026, it is now expected to contract by 3.3%.
Another MBS idea for “Davos in the Desert” was cancelled after Western executives grew nervous over Houthi threats and governments issued travel warnings.
Annual foreign direct investment (FDI) has plummeted to roughly 1/3 of MBS’s $100 billion target. Megaprojects are being shelved as public finances face immense strain, and local wages are failing to keep pace with soaring inflation.
But probably the most significant of all is the failed bet on Donald Trump. MBS heavily aligned Saudi security and diplomatic strategy with the Trump Administration, investing heavily in US and executing controversial financial deals with the former first family to buy influence.
However, this partnership has failed to yield the ironclad security umbrella Saudi Arabia expected. Instead, US confrontations with Iran have escalated the regional proxy warfare, leaving the Kingdom highly vulnerable and exposed without an adequate American protection.
Is the unraveling of these interconnected MBS bets culminating in a severe geopolitical and financial crisis for Saudi Arabia:

🇬🇱 Greenland’s new international airport in Ilulissat has officially been approved for operation by the Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority.
Construction work and preparations for the new airport began in 2020.
This means that the last of Greenland’s three new airports is now ready, giving the Disko Bay region and North Greenland a new gateway to the rest of the world.
With a 2200-metre runway, the airport will be able to accommodate larger passenger aircraft, opening the door to direct international flights, shorter travel times, and new opportunities for tourism, business, and cargo transport.
“We are now ready to welcome the first passengers to the new Ilulissat Airport. We have been looking forward to this for years, and hundreds of people have worked hard to make this historic expansion of Greenland’s infrastructure a reality,” says Jens Lauridsen, CEO of Greenland Airports.
Today: Air Greenland’s Airbus A330neo is on its way from Copenhagen to Ilulissat for its first-ever landing at the new international airport.

Een jaar geleden stuurden we Wilders terug naar de marges van de kamer en kozen miljoenen Nederlanders voor de positieve krachten!
Toen we vorig jaar de bladzijde Wilders omsloegen, dachten we misschien dat we daarmee ook meteen de oude Haagse cultuur achter ons konden laten. Maar zo werkt verandering niet. Dat heb ik de afgelopen maanden wel geleerd. Verandering vraagt samenwerken. Doorzetten. En daarna nóg eens doorzetten. Nog een poging. Nog een gesprek. En dan geen genoegen nemen als het nog niet is gelukt.
Want politiek is veel te belangrijk om aan de pessimisten over te laten. We blijven bouwen aan een Nederland waarin optimisme wint!

Wilders heeft natuurlijk gewoon gelijk.
Wilders gaat gehakt van je maken en dat is ook niet zo moeilijk want je bent nu al slechtste premier ooit, je zit vooral in het buitenland of privé plaatjes van je vriend en draagmoeder te posten of ons geld aan de Oekraïne of Afrika te verkwanselen terwijl Arabieren ons land blijven binnenstromen, onze vrouwen en dochters door criminelen worden verkracht of vermoord en Nederlanders vreemden in eigen stad en dorp zijn geworden. Nederland zal politiek hard met je afrekenen.

Wie zijn premier ben je eigenlijk Rob? Niet die van de Nederlanders, daar is inmiddels geen enkele twijfel meer over. Je eigen handelen, en die van je kabinet, laat zien dat de Nederlander vooral op mag draaien voor allerlei linkse hobbies, terwijl ze met drie truien over elkaar en met de verwarming op 15C, dit kennelijk ook nog enthousiast toe mogen juichen?
Ik zou je graag met de vlakke hand een flinke tik om je oren willen geven, om vervolgens de verbaasde blik die je daarna trekt te beantwoorden met: waar ben je in godsnaam mee bezig? Behalve met je carriëre als TikTok-clown en Instagram-aandachtsjunk?

"JD Vance's in-laws' names are Radhakrishna Chilukuri and Lakshmi Chilukuri. I wonder if he tells them this stuff, too. To their faces," Hasan wrote on X, responding to a vile Vance campaign rally clip.
"Or does he just save it for white MAGA rallies? Truly a racist pathetic embarrassment of a son-in-law to his brown Indian immigrant in-laws," he added.
The clip in question showed Vance engaging in the kind of lowest common denominator, xenophobic, gleefully ignorant rhetoric that has defined the Republican Party's messaging this entire election cycle. They know that they can't fix gas prices or improve affordability because of Trump's interminable, disastrous Iran War, so they're mashing the big racist button as hard as they can.
"A very distinctive memory I have of right after 9/11, I was a young man in high school," said Vance. "I remember that sense of pride, you remember that? That all of us had, Democrat, Republican, and Independent in our country. And I remember driving to a local gas station to wait hours in line for gasoline...
"That was now, of course, more expensive because of a region of the world made up of countries of names that I couldn't even pronounce," he said.
The joke there, folks, is that Arabic names are alien sounding and impossible to pronounce for a simple country boy like James David Vance. Who exactly finds this kind of provincial, bigoted material appealing? The infuriating irony, of course, is that while Vance can't "pronounce" Arabic names, he has absolutely no problem dropping bombs on Arabs in Gaza.
This is the deal with the MAGA Devil that Vance has made. He wants to be the leader of a party that is now unashamedly white nationalist, but his entire family is Indian-American. His wife's name used to be Usha Chilukuri. One of his sons is named Vivek.
Vance is so power-hungry that he is actively creating a world that is more hostile to his own flesh and blood. He's a disgusting, spineless creature who can never be permitted to inhabit the White House.
