Did you know Ujjain was already the centre of Indian astronomy and timekeeping?
The Surya Siddhanta, an ancient Sanskrit astronomical text dating to approximately the 4th–8th centuries CE, describes a reference meridian passing through Ujjain. That is over 1,000 years before British rule ended in 1947.
The British didn’t create this ancient Indian astronomical tradition.
Greenwich became the internationally adopted prime meridian in 1884, during British imperial dominance.
Important distinction: the Zero Shadow Day phenomenon occurs at Dongla, in Ujjain district…not inside Mahakaleshwar Temple itself!
