If you're a Nigerian developer, whether you're just starting out or you've been building for years, there's so much you can build and learn with homegrown technologies 🇳🇬❤️ We have: 🇳🇬 @Dbrij_hq & @pxxl_space instead of Vercel for hosting. 🇳🇬 @StackshiftCloud for VPS hosting and management, as an alternative to providers like Hostinger and tools like Coolify. 🇳🇬 @Dbrij_hq & @sendly_ai_ instead of Resend for business and transactional emails. 🇳🇬 @cencori instead of OpenRouter and Cloudflare AI Gateway for AI model access and management. 🇳🇬 Sabilytics.com instead of Google Analytics and DataFast for website analytics. 🇳🇬 @OutRayTunnel for tunnelling local services, as an alternative to tools like ngrok and Cloudflare Tunnel. 🇳🇬 @Bachs_hq for international payments, as an alternative to Stripe. And these are just the ones I can remember right now! I'm not saying you must stop using international tools. I'm saying we have people right here building alternatives worth trying, supporting, and contributing to. With better local pricing that fits us. I know I'm missing so many other products. What other Nigerian-built products and their global alternatives should be on this list? Drop them in the replies! 👇 And if you're building something in Nigeria or anywhere across Africa, please submit your project to Africa Is Building so more people can discover what you're working on ❤️ africaisbuilding.com/submit

Power does not corrupt gradually. It corrupts the moment the ones holding it stop needing the people who gave it. Ibn Khaldun saw this across the Maghreb and wrote it as a law of history, not as warning. Warnings imply the pattern can be broken. It rarely is. The cycle continues

My employee resigned after I rejected her request for a raise. She didn’t argue. She just said, “I understand.” I thought that was the end of it. The next morning, she emailed HR: “Please accept this as my formal resignation.” No complaint. No counteroffer. I was almost offended. Me: “You’re resigning over a single raise request?” Her: “No.” Me: “Then what is this about?” Her: “The rejection just made me realize I was never going to be valued here.” I laughed. Me: “You’ve worked here for three years. You’re not seriously walking away because of one conversation.” She nodded. “I am.” Then she walked out.

The Governor thanked HRH, the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, for the befitting honour bestowed on Naufal Ahmad. He said the conferment speaks volumes of the Emirate's commitment to recognizing and encouraging young professionals driving the progress of Katsina State. He wished him continued wisdom and success in service to Katsina State and Nigeria. Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Katsina State 16th September, 2026

AI is powerful, but can you always trust its answers? Sometimes, AI gives convincing responses that are inaccurate or misleading. These are known as AI hallucinations. Join me this Saturday as we explore AI Safety and Hallucinations.

Melancholy often increases with competence, since becoming skilled enough to notice real subtlety also means becoming skilled enough to notice everything that falls short of it, turning expertise into one slow, steady, largely uncelebrated source of quiet, ongoing disappointment

Mortality is not a problem to be solved. It is the condition that makes meaning possible in the first place. An infinite life would have no reason to choose one path over another since every path could eventually be taken. Death forces the question of which life actually matters

Gibran said the deeper sorrow carves into your being the more joy you can contain. The carving is not gentle. Anyone who has felt it knows this. The capacity that opens afterward is real. Something that was not there before now fits inside. The sorrow built the room. Joy moves in

A decade ago, we set out to build a technology ecosystem in Katsina, driven by a simple belief: that technology has the power not only to create jobs, but to unlock new opportunities for our people, our state, and our country. Today, while we may not have fully realized that vision in the way we once imagined, we have made meaningful progress. What began as a grassroots movement has evolved into a platform for transformation. Today, many of us are in positions where we can shape technology policy, create opportunities for young people, and, perhaps most importantly, redefining how government works through innovation and digital transformation. The journey is far from over, but the foundation has been laid, and the future is brighter than ever.

I have a genuine concern. Why are Nigerian startup founders building countless payment apps, betting platforms, and delivery services, yet hardly anyone is building serious solutions to insecurity, hunger, poverty, and failing education? These are the problems affecting hundreds of millions of people. What exactly is stopping our brightest minds from working on them? Is it that investors won’t fund such ideas? Or have we become more interested in convenience than solving the problems holding the country back? Nigeria doesn’t need another payment app as much as it needs solutions that make people safer, put food on tables, create opportunities, and help children learn.

A lawyer in Manhattan gets a 500-page contract. Every clause needs to be searchable. By hand: one week. An accountant in Chicago gets 200 scanned invoices. Every number needs to land in a spreadsheet. By hand: four days. A researcher at Stanford has 50 academic papers. Tables, formulas, charts locked inside PDFs. By hand: two weeks. Every one of them is losing days of their life to copy-paste. Now meet MinerU. A free and open source tool that reads any PDF, Word doc, PowerPoint, Excel sheet, or scanned image. It pulls out the text in reading order. Tables become clean HTML. Equations become LaTeX. Handwriting handled. 109 languages. You give it a 200-page PDF. You get clean Markdown back in 90 seconds. What makes it different from every other PDF tool: - Multi-column layouts. It reads top to bottom within each column. Not left to right across the page. Like a human reads. - Scanned documents. OCR built in. Point it at a photo of a printed page from 1995. Get clean text back. - Math formulas. LaTeX-quality recognition. Every equation renders correctly. - Tables. Merged cells, multi-row headers, tables that span three pages. All preserved. - Ten-thousand-page documents. Sliding window processing. No manual splitting. - Batch mode. Point it at a folder of 500 documents. Walk away. Three ways to use it: - CLI. One command per document. - Python SDK. Five lines of code. - Web app at mineru.net. Upload, click, download. No install. Plugs into Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, LangChain, LlamaIndex, RAGFlow, Dify, and FastGPT. Feed extracted documents straight to your AI agent. The story: The OpenDataLab team at Shanghai AI Laboratory needed to extract clean text from millions of scientific documents to train a language model. Existing tools failed. They built their own. Then they open sourced it. 68,551 stars. MinerU Open Source License, built on Apache 2.0. Free for personal and commercial use. Three technical reports on arXiv. Adobe Acrobat Pro charges $239.88 a year. It still loses your tables. ABBYY FineReader Corporate charges $165 a year. It still cannot do equations. Mistral OCR charges $2 per 1,000 pages. Your bill never stops. MinerU costs $0. Runs on your laptop. Your documents never leave your machine. Here is the wild part. The lawyer got her contract back in 4 minutes. Every clause searchable. The accountant fed 200 invoices in. Every number landed in a spreadsheet in 12 minutes. The researcher fed his 50 papers in. He wrote his literature review on a Sunday afternoon. The document your company has been processing by hand for years takes MinerU minutes. Your documents become text. Your text becomes data. Your data becomes answers. The week you used to lose to paperwork is back in your hands.

Researchers show that Claude Code is 98% not AI. Anthropic never gave us the architecture for Claude Code. There were no docs. Just a tool that every developer is currently obsessing over. Until it leaked recently. A research team pulled the source code, analyzed all 500,000 lines, and found something ridiculous. Only 1.6% of the codebase actually interacts with the AI model. The core of Claude Code is literally just a simple while-loop. It asks the model what to do, runs a tool, and repeats. So what is the other 98.4%? It is hardcore, traditional software engineering. The researchers found a massive, complex infrastructure designed entirely to babysit the AI and keep it from hallucinating or destroying your computer: - A 7-mode permission system acting as a security bouncer. - A 5-layer context compaction pipeline so the AI doesn't forget its goal. - A subagent delegation mechanism with strict worktree isolation. - Four different extensibility hooks to manage external tools safely. Every startup right now is trying to build a better AI model to get better results. Anthropic did the exact opposite. They took an existing model and built a fortress of deterministic software around it. They realized that the AI doesn't need to be smarter. It needs to be managed.

Every Nigerian developer has shipped a "temporary" admin login at some point. "We'll remove it before production." Production comes. The deadline is tight. The login stays. Three months later that "temporary" backdoor is still there.
