It's a horrible feeling when someone convicted is someone who was known to you. Mark was on my borough, I knew him to have a conversation with & worked central aid a few times with him over the years. I was shocked to hear what had happened - I felt he was a decent guy, but others who knew him better have since told me differently. Just goes to show, you never know what someone is capable of, even if they seem decent. 🚨 FORMER MET POLICE OFFICER GUILTY OF RAPING WOMAN HE MET THROUGH HIS WORK Former Metropolitan Police officer Mark Tyrrell, 57, has been convicted of rape, three sexual assaults and perverting the course of justice. The woman repeatedly told Tyrrell “no” before he raped her. Jurors heard that he later acknowledged what he had done was rape. Tyrrell served in the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command — the same command in which convicted rapists Wayne Couzens and David Carrick also served. Police concerns were raised after officers attending the woman’s home over an unrelated matter discovered Tyrrell hiding beside her bed. He attempted to delete messages exchanged with the woman and persuaded her to lie to police about why he was in her bedroom. In one message, he apologised for “being a sex offender” and “for ruining your life by being in it”. Tyrrell denied that the sexual activity was non-consensual, maintaining it had been consensual. He was acquitted of 13 other charges, including a further rape count. He will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on 16 December. Couzens is serving a whole-life sentence for kidnapping, raping and murdering Sarah Everard in 2021. Carrick is serving 37 life sentences for a series of sexual offences against women. ⚖️➡️ Trial began today for four men accused of sexual offences against Joanne Young, who was drugged and abused by now ex-husband Philip Young for over 13 years. Former councillor Phillip Young has already pleaded guilty to 56 horrific offences against his former wife, including drugging her, rape and voyeurism. Another man Dean Hamilton has also pleaded guilty. The four remaining defendants deny all offences. The trial is expected to last six weeks at Winchester Crown Court. Joanne Young waived her right to anonymity and watched from the public gallery as her former husband admitted all horrific offences against her back in January. Insurmountable strength in the face of such betrayal and depravity. My thoughts are with her over the next several weeks as the trial continues.

AN EXCELLENT OVERVIEW IN SUPPORT OF DoS Opinion: Simon Keller ipaper Meghan's detractors are embarrassing themselves This is a private agony which should afford her a sympathetic hearing. There is unfortunately, no appeals process in the court of public opinion. This most summary, unforgiving, & pitiless of tribunals does not allow for re-evaluation of its verdicts, or the award of reparations to those who have suffered a miscarriage of justice. And so today, some of those who stood in harsh judgement of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, in the question of the estrangement from her father do not have to face the forum themselves after new facts have come to light that, in this case alone, should force a re-evaluation of the Duchess of Sussex’s actions. In fact, her biggest critic, Piers Morgan, has doubled down. Back in 2018, the year the Sussexes were married, he accused the Duchess of Sussex of hypocrisy in cutting ties with her father. “You can’t just freeze him out of your life like you’ve done the rest of your family and most of your old friends,” wrote Morgan. “All your fancy new palaces, servants and tiaras won’t make up for losing your father.” Others were quick to pile in, pointing to this as another measure of the DoS’s heartlessness & opportunism. But the news that her 82-year-old father, Thomas Markle Snr, is under investigation in the Philippines for the alleged possession of a huge cache of indecent images of children sheds a different light on the issue. He denies all the allegations, but the Philippine interior minister said that “all signs point to a possible sex offender of the grossest kind”. In response to this revelation, the DoS released a statement on Saturday saying that she received a letter from the Metropolitan Police in early 2019 not in 2018, as her Friday statement said – containing serious allegations about her father. She was, she says, given assurances that these claims were being investigated. That she should go public with this piece of information only now is entirely a matter for her. She had been advised not to prejudice the criminal investigation, & besides which, she had every right to keep this shaming piece of news private Morgan, for one, has maintained his long-held antipathy to the Duchess of Sussex, criticising her for not making public the information she had in 2019, & questioning whether she had done anything to follow up on the claims. “Why was nothing done? Why was nothing said? And why did she not go public to protect others?” he posted on X. This, of course, was the job of the Metropolitan Police, which is now weighing up whether to report itself to the police watchdog over what may be seen as its failings in this case. It is difficult to take the temperature of public reaction to these latest claims, and to the DoS’s defence of her position, because, like Morgan, so many people have such deeply entrenched views about her. But this is a private agony which should afford her a sympathetic hearing. What’s more, it raises an uncomfortable question for her detractors. Why were so many people so confident that a daughter who had chosen to distance herself from her father must be the villain of the peace? And while, in her statement, the DoS expresses concern for “any children who may have been harmed”, she is also a victim herself. Women cannot be held responsible for men’s conduct. If the DoS was dissuaded from sharing the existence of the letter for legal reasons, not only did she have the private pain of her father’s alleged actions, she had no way of explaining why she had taken the decision to cut contact with him. In retrospect, it makes the excoriation of her in this particular matter especially cruel and ignorant. This is how the court of public opinion works. There is no defence, only prosecution. No nuance, only sweeping certainties. But maybe, in the midst of this murky, sordid, unpleasant business, we can find it in our hearts to feel a small measure of compassion for her.

Why is sentencing so inconsistent for these evil perverts?
🚨 VICAR WHO ABUSED A THREE-YEAR-OLD GIRL JAILED FOR NINE YEARS Gordon Newton, 40, a former Church of England clergyman who worked in Batley, West Yorkshire, has been jailed for nine years and seven months after admitting 12 offences, including six counts of sexually assaulting a girl under 13. His crimes came to light when his wife handed an old mobile phone to police. Officers found 276 indecent images of children, including 70 in the most serious category. His browsing history also revealed a search suggesting an interest in images involving children younger than three. Leeds Crown Court heard Newton had confessed to a sexual interest in children over a period of years. His offending devastated his wife, leaving her suffering depression and shattering her religious faith. Judge Tom Bayliss condemned Newton’s “extremely wicked series of acts”, telling him: “You held yourself out as a man of God but you're nothing. You're a hypocrite.” The judge said Newton had betrayed the child, his wife, parishioners and church authorities. Newton, of Huddersfield, was placed on the sex offenders register for life and made subject to a sexual offences prevention order. Source UK Database.

POLICY CHANGED: County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust has finally changed its staff changing-room policy after a three-year legal battle with the Darlington nurses in which female nurses were harassed and discriminated against for wanting a single-sex place to undress at work. The Trust’s revised Uniform and Dress Code Policy now states: “In accordance with UK Supreme Court ruling (2025), staff must use changing spaces according to their biological sex. Alternative unisex changing spaces are provided for staff who choose not to use an alternative facility.” The change brings the Trust’s written policy into line with the law and the judgment secured by seven nurses at Darlington Memorial Hospital. express.co.uk/news/uk/226004…
