The next 18 months could fundamentally reshape how we think about security. I believe we're approaching a period where geopolitical tensions, AI-powered cyber threats, financial instability, digital warfare and critical infrastructure vulnerabilities will become increasingly interconnected. And the real concern isn't necessarily any single threat. It's how these developments can amplify one another. Consider what's unfolding: • AI is lowering the barrier to sophisticated cyberattacks. • Nation-state cyber operations are becoming an increasingly important dimension of geopolitical competition. • Financial institutions, payment networks and digital assets face evolving security risks. • Critical infrastructure, from telecommunications to energy systems, remains increasingly exposed. • Disinformation, deepfakes and information warfare are challenging public trust. For Africa, particularly Nigeria, this should be a wake-up call👌. Digital sovereignty, infrastructure resilience, financial security and technological independence must become strategic priorities, not conversations we postpone until a crisis occurs. For those of us working across cybersecurity, AI, blockchain and emerging technologies, this is also a moment to rethink what we're building and why. We need to move beyond simply identifying vulnerabilities and reacting to incidents. We need stronger intelligence capabilities, proactive defence, resilient infrastructure and technologies capable of anticipating emerging threats. I don't know exactly what the next 18 months will bring, but I believe organizations and nations that start preparing now will be better positioned for whatever comes next.
