I think I figured out why Ryan Poles hasn’t traded for a star player yet.
I’ve looked back at all the recent trades for star defensive players and the one common denominator concerning the teams trading for the star defensive player is that every team had already extended/signed their QB prior to making their blockbuster trades:
The Packers traded for Micah Parsons AFTER extending Jordan Love.
The Cowboys traded for Quinnen Williams AFTER extending Dak Prescott.
The Ravens *traded* for Maxx Crosby AFTER extending Lamar Jackson.
The Bengals traded for Dexter Lawrence AFTER extending Joe Burrow.
The Rams traded for Trent McDuffie AFTER signing Matthew Stafford.
The Rams traded for Myles Garrett AFTER extending Matthew Stafford
The one “outlier” here is Sauce Gardner but I think we all know that Jones was 100% getting extended and it wasn’t going to be for a Dak Prescott level bag.
When it comes to the Bears, yes it is very likely we will be extending Caleb, but it is also just as likely that he will be made the highest paid QB. We don’t know for how many years that deal will be or for how much exactly , but it will certainly be much more expensive and long term than the deal guys like Daniel Jones and Sam Darnold received.
Not knowing the exact deals of such a massive future contract will tower over ANY deal the Chicago Bears have ever handed out in franchise history is what makes trading for a $40M+ defensive player extremely difficult and almost infeasible.
That being said, I do believe we start becoming more aggressive once Caleb’s deal is finalized. The biggest contractual hurdle will finally be dealt with and we would be able to paint a much clearer picture on our salary cap outlook when regarding trading for a star player.
Kevin Warren built a world class stadium on time and under budget in Minnesota. Arguably the best in the NFL. He was dealing with adults and not children like In Illinois. Blame these assholes

The songs “you sang about real people” were mostly about American pride and Patriotism, God fearing and God loving people, in a time where those qualities were valued.
Now, with a country so deliberately divided due to the constant hatred that is coming from one side and epidemic levels of TDS - during a time where every effort is being made by this administration to revive patriotism and love of family and God, and the American way- you’ve chosen to side with the very people who sought to destroy that culture, those traditions and those values.
What’s worse, is the people you are now standing with were never your fans- but by all means, stand with them, and lose every real fan you ever had!

This Soldier Field debt saga is the actual underbelly behind the Bears potentially ghosting Chicago. Forget the polite “we want a modern dome” talk; the TikTok rant nailed the leverage play. Bears and NFL ponied up their ~$200M back in the early 2000s for that ugly spaceship reno. Government floated the rest on bonds + hotel taxes, Bears kept paying rent/tickets/concessions the whole time. Illinois? Refinanced like a dude dodging calls from collections, let interest compound, pandemic killed the hotel revenue… now taxpayers are staring down $350M+ principal (closer to $500M+ with everything) through the 2030s.
