I miss when marketing was like "Got milk?" and not a maniacal database built to target my specific DNA sequence

The story of tech and design:
In 1976, Apple figured out that design, taste, and quality make better products.
Ever since, everyone in tech has wanted to be like Apple and “do design,” while remaining completely oblivious to what design, quality and taste actually means
“designing much faster than the others” — this so daft and makes it clear they don’t understand design at all. “Designing fast” (or slow) is just not a thing. If you conflate “producing ui by piecing together stuff” and “design” then the former (which is a form of assembly-line practice) can surely be fast or slow.
What makes the practice of design challenging is not how to put a ui or poster together, it’s what the pieces are, what the message is, what is being communicated, how it all works together.
So many of today’s “design” AI tools focus almost exclusively on the production part, on putting stuff together. I’d love to see an AI design tool that forms a deep understanding of a problem over the course of days or months and works like a creative partner. Call me on my bullshit, thinks about the whole, isn’t concerned really about the final arrangement of elements as much as it would understand the story and the message.

Paris Fashion Week with @brooksrunning. Maybe my favorite project of 2026 🌀
We were commissioned to create 2 collage murals for @brooksrunning Paris Fashion Week.
Conceptually we explored the Pacific Northwest through the runner’s lens. Printed on Tyvek. In Partnership with @reedartdept and @WRKSagency 🤝

Been wondering if spending so much time indoors during the pandemic wearing comfy, relaxed clothes had something to do with the shift to baggier silhouettes. Obviously trends played a part, but I feel like it could have influenced what we wanted to wear once we went back out.
Still thinking about this post. Human creative innovation is not spontaneous but is actually a byproduct of solving problems. Art deco (for example) was not some randomly-inspired force of will to create beauty; it happened because metallurgy became just advanced enough to create everything out of metal, and because zoning laws required skyscrapers to have a stepped shape at the top.
This is why top-down efforts at changing our civilizational aesthetic (like those guys building the giant Greek statues) don’t work. They don’t change the “problem” we’re solving as a civilization, which is the actual source of the bleak & dreary surroundings we find ourselves in

Netflix wants to lead culture, but its obsession w/ data means waiting for audiences to validate show before committing to more. Then we get 18 months between seasons.
Sorry. Can't lead culture by waiting for it to tell you where to go.

If it keeps going at this rate, we might, for (I think) the first time in history, be about to witness the first continent-wide youth revolt in Europe - a "European spring" of sorts.
The sheer number of countries where it's **already** happening is pretty overwhelming. I count 8, including 4 with violent clashes:
- France, famously
- Albania (see below) with daily clashes in Tirana and a government building set alight
- Belgium: the French movement spilled over, including riots in Liège
- Italy: "No Meloni Day" student protests since 16 October, turning into riots in Milan, Turin and Bologna
- Greece: students camping in Athens' Syntagma Square over housing and education costs, explicitly inspired by France
- Germany: pupils blockading schools in Berlin and Hamburg in solidarity with France
- Spain: an indefinite education strike in Madrid, with students marching alongside teachers and families
- Serbia: the student movement born from the 2024 Novi Sad station collapse is now running its own list in the 25 October election
And, by the way, the fact it's also happening in countries with close to no immigration - like Albania - goes to show how reductive it is to label these movements, like JD Vance and Trump did with France, as the fruit of "the migrants hav[ing] taken over."
As is often the case, it's much more a story of "it's the economy, stupid." As such, Trump with his war on Iran, has ironically done much more to fuel this (pun intended) than any migrant.
