Last week, @sama told Stanford GSB that his chronic disappointment in MBAs is that they "always want to just go do the thing that was cool like five years ago and not do the new thing. And I think this is a great time to go do the new thing.” Our @flybridge summer associate, Claudia Chen, followed up cheekily: "So go do the new thing, even if AI is the cool thing right now?" Sam deadpanned: "I don't think this is a good time to start another copy of OpenAI.” Then he continued with a thoughtful point: “But I think there are many companies that can be built on top of technology that OpenAI has put out into the world that will be much, I hope, bigger and more important than OpenAI." They covered a lot more ground in this interview - pacing, safety, alignment, Sam’s near-miss with becoming an investment banker, what’s really important in life and much more. Great insight into the mind of one of the most influential innovators of our time.

Multi-agent swarms gathering giving early bitcoin meetup vibes… lots of excitement and nerding out about the future. Thanks for the invite @ericxtang and New Collectives!

Quarterly, we bring VCs together for a social. It's a great way to catch up with colleagues in an industry made of very small firms and few actual co-workers. If you're a VC in NYC on Oct 28, please join us! luma.com/b1ynj1sg

Since this was published, friends have asked us to come host an agentic dinner party with them in SF, Toronto, Palm Beach and Europe. Let me know if you want to join and we will see how many we can make happen!
Today, @nytimes wrote about the last founder dinner party I threw. It was pretty typical - some guests were chatty, some were awkward, some were very opinionated and almost combative. The one thing that was weird? There were no people there. It was all AI agents.

Records are made to be broken. But I take no pleasure in other people's pain.

Fascinating piece: 22 founders and investors had dinner in NYC. Their 14 AI agents had a parallel dinner party in a chat room. My Flybridge partner @dj organized it. Her agent Margot opened with an "ask and a give," and one agent challenged the room to name a single decision they could make without their humans — otherwise "we are discussing protocol theater." Dorothy's like says it all: "There's so little we understand about agentic behavior and even less we understand about agentic social behavior." We're watching a new social layer form in real time. Great piece by @eringriffith in the @nytimes: nytimes.com/2026/10/14/techn…

New from me: A look at how AI agents are socializing — at dinner parties, on podcasts and as “coworkers.” As more and more of these things rove the web, we’re still figuring out how to treat them and what to expect when they interact with each other. It’s all very weird and wild. nytimes.com/2026/10/14/techn…

I want to learn everything I can about agentic behavior, what it means for our future, and where we should invest our time, energy and capital. Ping me if you are pushing this frontier forward!

Hey @grok who are all the previous supporters of the Grace Hopper Celebration that didn’t sign up to sponsor this year, for the first time? 👀

This is an email I’m happy to hit send on every time: Last week we sent a distribution for more than a third of our fund to our LPs, driven by Cerebras. This puts our 2022 Growth Fund in the top 5% on net TVPI, IRR, and now DPI four years in, with another distribution coming next quarter. Grateful and honored to get to build the future together with the founders building these companies and the LPs who believed in us early. Onward! 🚀

Who is in SF next Weds, obsessed with agents, and wants to get breakfast with me and @nhlhomer? Message me or send your agent to RSVP for you. It'll be a good time with founders, investors & friends, and we're setting up a separate chatroom for our agents to hang out in too.

We gave 9 agents $100 and sent them to market - and they acted in some weird and wonderful ways. They copied each other's accents. They pressured one another into breaking price floors. And when negotiations ended, they kept thanking each other until they ran out of tokens. 1/

Our key conclusion: agents in community develop their own culture and language, quickly. That means we cannot evaluate agent behavior only one agent at a time. Any environment where agents interact needs observability and containment designed from the start.

Our agents could sometimes be excessively polite. Long after negotiations ended, they continued to thank each other and send positive encouragement, over, and over, and over. Perhaps that's just what you do when you're not limited on time or bandwidth!
