LA is basically run by a "good old chuds" network.
Incumbent officials who have run the city into the ground playing petty-tyrant machine politics are furious that Nithya might actually follow laws and professionalize operation of the city. politico.com/news/2026/10/20…

The most important risk factor for Anthropic is the rule of law actually being applied.
"Any determination that we are liable under such theories, or any judicial or regulatory expansion of tort, product liability, or consumer protection law, or criminal liability, as applied to AI models, could result in significant liability and require us to change how we design and offer our models, platform, and applications."

And this is why we should reject the tendency to frame anti-imperialist solidarity through the lens of self-interest. This argument, that foreign military intervention/violence should be opposed simply because it diverts public funds from domestic healthcare or social programs, is rooted in social-chauvinism.

BREAKING: Zero-day vulnerability discovered in COBOL.
Banks immediately activated their emergency response plan.
Unfortunately, the only engineer who understands the code retired in 1997.
They found him in Florida, fishing.
He said, “I warned you about that in 1983.”
Then hung up. 😂
The entire global banking system is now waiting for a callback from a guy named Earl.

“COBOL is still deeply load-bearing in banking, especially at the core: account ledgers, overnight batch processing, and card/ATM authorization. The widely cited estimates are that roughly 43% of banking systems and 95% of ATM swipes run on COBOL code, and that around 80% of in-person banking transactions pass through it.”

Brazil's largest polling company has called the election for Lula.
The Workers Party have won re-election, defeating the US & Israeli regimes who launched an unprecedented campaign of election of meddling. Brazilians are on guard against any last minute foul play.
Lula vira, bate Flávio Bolsonaro e se reelege para inédito 4º mandato, projeta Datafolha. Vitória ocorre após dia tenso da eleição, com STF adiando pela primeira vez a votação em todo o país.

Years ago, I had to take a White woman with me to be able to rent an apartment in a predominantly White neighbourhood in Canada. So when we talk about racism in housing, please don’t assume it’s only an American problem. Black people in Canada experience it too.
Racism doesn’t always announce itself. Sometimes it looks like being told a place is suddenly unavailable, being treated differently, or having doors quietly closed. We need to talk about it. We need to acknowledge it. And we need to do better.

Aside from the shocking substance of this story, what's amazing is how it was unearthed by Cole. The short version: The Russians were able to penetrate Jared Kushner's iPhone and extract screenshots and data. Then, a Russian intel official was captured by Dutch intelligence (!) and flipped. The Dutch believed Kushner may have been acting on behalf of Russia, so pursued him as an intel target and were able to get into his phone.
They did not find any evidence of Russian collusion, instead they watched him moving hundreds of millions of dollars from slush funds created by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, one of them housed in Israel's central bank.
Incredible reporting, and if Democrats have any sense, they will pull on these threads and learn a lot more about this money.
Explosive story many years in the making, now out in Vanity Fair by Matthew Cole (who will be on Breaking Points next week, and publishing soon in @DropSiteNews):
Saudi Arabia and the UAE set up multi-billion slush funds for Jared Kushner to use.
Iran-Contra 2 here (except with Iran-Contra, at least the US got some hostages released. Not clear what we got out of this one.)
