Looking to create stunning, data-rich maps in R? The tidyterra package makes it simple to integrate spatial data with ggplot2, bringing the power of the tidyverse to geospatial analysis. With tidyterra, you can work with spatial data just like any other data set in ggplot2. ✔️ Ease of Use: Simplifies map creation by integrating with ggplot2, using familiar functions and syntax, which reduces the complexity of working with spatial data. ✔️ Flexible Visualizations: Supports a variety of geospatial formats, allowing you to combine spatial data with other data sets, and work seamlessly with both raster and vector data. ✔️ Efficient Data Handling: Leverages dplyr-like functions for filtering, summarizing, and joining, which streamlines data processing and enables smooth integration between spatial and non-spatial data. ✔️ Beautiful Maps: Create detailed, customizable maps with less code and more flexibility, using the grammar of graphics you already know from ggplot2. The visualizations shown here are taken from the package website and demonstrate how tidyterra simplifies creating detailed maps using ggplot2: dieghernan.github.io/tidyter… If you’d like to learn more about ggplot2 and how to create stunning visualizations, check out my online course on “Data Visualization in R Using ggplot2 & Friends!” Click this link for detailed information: statisticsglobe.com/online-c… #RStats #DataVisualization #R4DS #database #DataAnalytics #DataViz #ggplot2 #Statistics

The Gini coefficient is a common statistical measure of income or wealth inequality. It ranges from 0, indicating perfect equality, to 1, showing maximum inequality. This metric provides a clear picture of how resources are distributed within a population and is widely used in economics, policymaking, and social sciences. ✔️ Better policy-making: The Gini coefficient helps identify disparities in wealth or income distribution, enabling targeted interventions such as progressive taxation or social welfare programs. ✔️ Economic insights: It supports tracking inequality trends, helping governments and organizations evaluate the impact of economic policies over time. ❌ Misinterpretation risks: The Gini coefficient doesn’t account for absolute income levels, population demographics, or multidimensional inequality, such as access to education or healthcare. ❌ Over-reliance: Using it as the sole indicator may overlook critical structural issues, such as regional or sectoral disparities. The visualization below explains the Gini coefficient. The shaded areas represent the inequality between the line of equality and the Lorenz curve. The Gini coefficient is calculated as the ratio of area A to the total of areas A and B, where the axes represent cumulative population and cumulative income. This depiction effectively demonstrates inequality but does not capture complex dynamics like intergenerational mobility. Image credit to Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gini_c… 🔹 In R: Use the ineq package for straightforward computation of the Gini coefficient. For example, ineq(data, type = "Gini") calculates it directly. To analyze distributional aspects further, consider the reldist package for additional measures. 🔹 In Python: Compute the Gini coefficient using ineqpy or custom implementations with numpy and pandas for flexibility. Visualize income or wealth distributions with the Lorenz curve using matplotlib for greater clarity. Want to learn more about topics in statistics, data science, R, and Python?

New study finds individual variation in habitat selection WITHIN species exceeds variation BETWEEN species — suggesting habitat preference may not really be a species-level trait. Also: avoiding roads is the one thing all mammals agree on 😄 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…
