The West Indies' 3-0 thrashing of England in the sun-drenched summer of 1976 was about much more than mere cricket and sport. For the Windrush generation and their children, it fuelled a source of immense pride. @paul_newman66 speaks to cricketers, broadcasters, musicians and community leaders about how a touring cricket team inspired a generation of Black Britons. 🔗 nyti.ms/4srDzFK

15 years ago today, the epic @pitchowners SGM where the club's attempt to buy back the Stamford Bridge freehold was defeated by CPO shareholders at a highly charged meeting. Those supporters who were there are unlikely to forget it

I haven’t posted here for ages, but I want people to share my wife’s GoFundMe if possible. She has been wonderful in the most important roles in life – as a mother, grandmother and a teacher. Please donate if you can. Thanks gofund.me/5e34e0fa3

Matt Renshaw spent three and a half years out of the Australian Test side, reinventing himself as a white-ball player. But, in his second match back in the fold and operating in the tourists' middle order, the Queenslander made Australian Test history in Durban this week. @benjonescricket explains how — free to read ⬇️ bit.ly/4yWJt4o

Only five other players in Test history can match what Matt Renshaw achieved in Durban. This was an historic performance that should kick start his second act - but if it doesn't, he'll always have "the Renshaw game". Free to read on @TheAthletic 🚨 nytimes.com/athletic/7689091…

Australia have been a brilliant Test side, but the absence of overseas achievements taints their legacy. The next 12 months gives this group of ageing legends one last shot at greatness. But are they still capable of taking that chance? nytimes.com/athletic/7664994…

It was a seemingly innocuous email, sent on a Wednesday morning in January 2017, that started everything. Arriving in the inbox of a senior official at Manchester City, it appeared to have been sent by an employee from European football’s governing body, UEFA, and contained a link to a financial compliance report. The City official clicked the download button. That was all it took. It was not a genuine email from UEFA but a successful phishing attempt by Portuguese hacker and activist Rui Pinto. City’s servers were breached, allowing Pinto to retrieve thousands of emails and documents from the club’s systems. This week, almost 10 years on from Pinto’s first email, the Premier League announced that an independent panel had found City guilty of all but one of the charges against them, as The Athletic first revealed last Friday. 📝 @jwhitey98: nyti.ms/4z5sgoL

Cricket has repeatedly reflected the tensions between India and Pakistan since independence from British rule in 1947. If both win their respective Asian Games semi-finals on Thursday, it could crop up again in Saturday’s final. This is the box-office rivalry that has become increasingly difficult to separate from the political tensions that so regularly erupt between the two countries. 📝 @64MohsinKamal 🔗 nyti.ms/47parFp

Mark Wood is an Ashes winner. He has claimed an ODI World Cup and a T20 World Cup, and retires from international cricket with over 250 wickets to his name and a career to be envied by all but a very privileged few. If you look at the highest speeds recorded across Tests for England, Wood isn’t just top of the list — he is the list. The nine fastest performances in an England Test shirt over the past two decades are by Wood. But, more than that, he departs as England’s fastestever bowler — and one of the most popular players to ever pull on an England shirt. 📝 @benjonescricket 🔗 nyti.ms/47fyhDq
