“What number is this, Chip?”
“7-A!”
This weekend marks the anniversary of “Daydream Believer,” released on October 25, 1967.
Written by John Stewart of the Kingston Trio, and produced by Chip Douglas, it became one of those records that seemed to be an instant hit. Davy sang the lead, I sang harmony, Mike played guitar, Peter played piano, and Chip was there on bass and percussion. Shorty Rogers supplied the orchestral arrangement.
The single became our third No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, holding the top spot for four weeks. It also reached No. 1 in Canada, New Zealand, Ireland and South Africa, No. 2 in Australia and Norway, No. 4 in Germany and Japan, and No. 5 in the U.K.
Peter came up with that instantly recognizable piano introduction, and the B-side was “Goin’ Down.” It had actually been recorded during the sessions for PISCES, AQUARIUS, CAPRICORN & JONES LTD., but wound up appearing on THE BIRDS, THE BEES & THE MONKEES instead.
Let's hear it for "Daydream Believer!"

Many of you know I went through a divorce. I have scars and stories.
But I was almost 39 when things fell apart.
I started over and put one foot in front of the other.
My admiration for Allie grows with each post. She is truly #GirlOnFire
When I separated from my marriage and got my first apartment by myself at 29, living alone seemed like the most daunting thing.
I had been convinced I couldn't survive alone. So the first thing I did was move a 110 lbs couch up two flights of stairs by myself.
You can do hard things... read my first lesson from divorce: allieberube.substack.com/p/l…
