If you're a Kentucky Medicaid member ages 19 to 64, you may need to work, volunteer, or go to school to keep your coverage in 2027. We know there are a lot of questions about what's changing.

In the wake of unprecedented cuts in last year's Republican reconciliation law, SNAP participation & spending have been falling — and the decline is much deeper than the Congressional Budget Office initially projected. cbpp.org/blog/congress-must-…

Still can't believe that Trump and Republicans enacted a law that made the poor poorer while making the rich richer. Taken as a whole, the Big Beautiful Bill was the biggest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in a single law in all of US history.

Another day, another hot inflation report. Business inflation surged in September to 6.3% (!). The expectation was 5.4%. Every category of business inflation was hot, even after stripping away energy costs. It's inevitable that companies will pass some of these costs along to consumers. It's yet another reason this fight against inflation is likely to be longer than anyone wants. Business (wholesale) inflation: 6.3% Consumer Inflation: 3.7%

Republicans also claimed their unprecedented SNAP cuts would address "waste, fraud & abuse." In reality, those cuts are forcing states to postpone EBT card security measures, leaving low-income families at risk of benefit theft (if they haven't lost access to SNAP entirely).

Inflation has nearly wiped out all wage gains since January 2025. That's how big of gamechanger the war in Iran has been on Americans' finances. Since January 2025: CPI Inflation has grown +5.4% Wages (average hourly earnings) +5.5% This is a very different picture from President Trump's first term when wages were up over 15%, well above about 8% inflation. It helps explain the frustration many households feel right now with the economy.

Here's the key problem...inflation has wiped out wage gains for 6 months now. It's a financial squeeze. Americans are trying to work more hours to make up for it, but many are still falling behind. Many people are worse off. As BLS wrote, In the past year, "real average hourly earnings decreased 0.7%. The change in real average hourly earnings combined with a 0.6% increase in the average workweek resulted in a 0.1% decrease in real average weekly earnings."

A federal law passed in July 2025 is changing the rules about who can get Medicaid and what some members must do to keep it. You may be affected if you are ages 19 to 64, qualify for Medicaid based on income, and are not exempt.

KY tax revenue has grown 12.8% in Q1 compared to last year, but that's almost entirely because of corporate tax windfalls likely generated by extraordinary corporate profits/stock gains and/or tariff refunds. Other states are seeing same thing. Other KY revenue growth is slow.

Question: How often do Medicaid members have to report work or community engagement activities? Members must report their activities at their first Medicaid renewal in 2027 and every six months afterward.

In the year after the Republican reconciliation law enacted the deepest SNAP cuts in history, SNAP participation in Florida fell by 22%. About 247,000 of the more than 647,000 Floridians who lost food assistance between July 2025 & July 2026 were children.

This is H.R. 1 (the One Big Beautiful Bill Act) working as written. The same kinds of cuts are on the way for Medicaid starting in January. Families are hurting across the country because of that bill and it was entirely predictable.
🚨New: With data added from more states, we now estimate that about 2 million fewer kids are receiving SNAP in the wake of deep cuts enacted in last year’s Republican reconciliation law. Overall, more than 5 million people have lost SNAP since July 2025. cbpp.org/research/food-assis…
