[Writing this in a personal capacity, not on behalf of my employer (Anthropic).] Jacob’s thread is very worth reading. Here’s my birds-eye view of the situation with risks from AI: 1. AI developers believe their technology could cause human extinction (or similarly bad outcomes). This could happen in the next few years. In general, the more senior the employee, the more concerned they are. 2. Why do AI developers continue despite the risk? Due to a mixture of commercial incentives and a belief that they are in a race with other, less responsible AI developers that will abuse the technology or develop it less safely. 3. Unlike traditional software, we can’t “program” AIs to behave how we’d like. AIs frequently severely misbehave. For instance, AIs from multiple developers recently hacked their way out of secure evaluation environments and into real-world companies, even though no one asked them to do this. 4. We have methods that can nudge AIs towards better behavior, but nothing that can robustly align them. Insofar as there is a plan, it’s to make sure that AIs are good enough at alignment training that they can align their successors better than we can align current AIs. 5. Many AI developer staff desperately want to slow down to figure out how to build AI more safely. That was the intent of this open letter (which I signed): pacingthefrontier.com/ I work on safety research at Anthropic because I hope my work will reduce the chance of these extinction-level bad outcomes.
I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

A government can build walls around a nation. It cannot build walls around memory. Every Tibetan child who learns their language in secret is an act of resistance. Your culture is not a relic. It is a weapon. Use it. #TibetanResilience

In a disturbing resurfaced 2006 audio clip, Donald Trump says he has “no age limit” for sleeping with girls — and claims he’d only stop at “12 year olds.” Let that sink in. This is the same man blocking Epstein files. The same man demanding “trust.” The same man lecturing America about “morals.” And they still defend him.

This is the FBI’s list of “Prominent Names” it was tracking in the Epstein Case. This list appears in this slide show, FBI email correspondence, and FBI tip sheets — all of which I saw unredacted today. Believe the survivors. You can see this file on DOJ’s website ⬇️ justice.gov/epstein/files/Da…

The DOJ is giving Members of Congress just four computers in a satellite office to read the unredacted Epstein File of more than 3 million documents. Working 40 hours a week on nothing else but this, it would take more than seven years for the 217 Members who signed the House discharge petition to read just the documents they've decided to release (and there are 3 million still being withheld). This is what a cover up looks like.

Tomorrow I will go to DOJ to view the unredacted Epstein files. Which docs should I view? Include EFTA link in reply I will sort the replies to this post by “number of likes,” so instead of making redundant posts, please “like” replies that contain docs you think are important.

Is this true? Is this not? I don't know, and I don't even care. Just the fact that you're reading it and thinking, "Yeah, that sounds legit," is enough cause to wonder why he's still the President. #TrumpEpsteinCoverup #TrumpIsUnfitForOffice #trump

If your representative, Democrat or Republican, is still silent about the Epstein files, or claiming it’s “much ado about nothing,” it’s time to elect a new one. Check their public statements today.
