Huge news for Latin America, and the world: Lula da Silva has won reelection in Brazil, despite blatant electoral meddling by the US. Brazil is the biggest country in Latin America, a major geopolitical power, and a founding member of BRICS. The US empire wanted to put back in power the corrupt, far-right Bolsonaro dynasty, which is extremely pro-US and pro-Israel. The Bolsonaros vowed to minimize Brazil's role in BRICS, serve the interests of Brazilian oligarchs and big landlords at the expense of the working class, uphold the global US dollar system, and let US corporations plunder Brazil's natural resources -- especially its rare earths and critical minerals, which the US wants to reduce its reliance on China. In contrast, Lula comes from a poor family and has always put the interests of the working class first. He has a non-aligned foreign policy, 100% supports Palestine, strongly believes in the importance of Global South integration and cooperation, and was a co-founder of BRICS. Lula will deepen Brazil's partnership with China and the rest of the Global South. He will also continue to push for the transformation of the international financial system and will challenge the global dominance of the US dollar, which infuriates Washington.

María Corina Machado returned to Venezuela to a small crowd of just a few party supporters, in what looked like a church. It is worth remembering that she called for sanctions and military intervention. She is a Zionist who comes from a wealthy family.

Brazil's largest polling company has called the election for Lula. The Workers Party have won re-election, defeating the US & Israeli regimes who launched an unprecedented campaign of election of meddling. Brazilians are on guard against any last minute foul play.

Orientalism 101: talk about something very western but use an Arab to make it legible. Why couldn’t he have used Versailles as an example? You know why.
OBAMA: He's got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory. It's gold everywhere.

Guys, we’re reaching levels of liberal contradiction heretofore thought impossible. The first ethnic cleansing campaign in human history where the party being ethnically cleansed fighting back is labeled a “criminal act” by nominal allies, hell yes
Accusing the Israeli military of committing genocide and then mourning the deaths of soldiers that took part in that genocide. Come on man, what are we doing?

NYT does a half hour podcast on Israeli elections with @halbfinger in which no one thinks Palestinian citizens of Israel, over 20% of the population, warrant a single mention. Literally not a single word: pca.st/episode/81d94a45-85d6…

In early 1977, the New York Times closed its bureau in Tehran, which left the paper with no reporters in Iran. 1977 was a significant moment in Iran’s history; political opposition was gaining momentum and the US had an “unprecedented economic and strategic relationship” to Iran:

The consortium agreement of 1954 gifted Iran’s oil to Western oil companies (including 40% to massive American oil companies and 40% to British Petroleum). Media greeted this agreement, didn’t raise questions about its fairness and generally portrayed it “as a boon for all.”

From mid-late 1950s, media coverage of the Shah was “generally favorable.” Portrayed as “interested and concerned onlooker” rather than central actor. His crackdown on Communists wasn’t questioned. Until early 1960s, lone mainstream press criticisms were of his spending habits.

In 1954, the Shah and his PM Zahedi moved to restore Iran’s ties with the West and the US. Earliest press coverage of this shift was “uniformly favorable”:

The Korean War often goes by the moniker "Forgotten War." I have always thought that requires a caveat. The US has forgotten its atrocities and its genocide of 3-5 million Koreans. It has never forgotten its hatred of the DPRK or the Korean people.

Ro, what do you mean Israel needs “new leadership”? All of Netanyahu’s major opposition have pledged to defend the settlements. The only differences are cosmetic and about disciplining the more vulgar elements around the margins. All the opposition also supports genocide in Gaza.
I am waiting for @netanyahu and @Isaac_Herzog to pipe in calling Brad Lander a liar who is staging a photo up. Or maybe Mr. Witkoff will be brazen enough to compliment Netanyahu & Herzog as great humanitarians like Putin & Trump. The world needs a new generation of leadership!

Through its attorneys, @BTnewsroom has now issued an official response to the congressional witch hunt led by Rep. Jason Smith. An excerpt: “Threatening compulsory depositions of journalists and newsroom staff to compel document production operates as coercive retaliation by explicitly targeting the core editorial leadership and journalistic staff of BreakThrough News. Allowing a congressional committee to haul journalists into deposition rooms to grill them on domestic and foreign policy reporting sets a dangerous precedent of state-sponsored press intimidation that chills independent journalism nationwide and infringes on core First Amendment protections.” Read our full response ⬇️
