You can learn a lot about an instructor by how they teach the basic armbar.

If you get the chance to teach take it. You don’t have to commit forever. Bring your full passion but also don’t forget to stay out of the way. Give them space to fumble around with what you’re laying out for them. Anyone else enjoy / get value from teaching. Learn Jiu Jitsu

Owning and operating your own academy is the ultimate endgame content for any BJJ journey. I’ve been training Jiu Jitsu for 23 years, and these last 10 have been the most fruitful. 7 days a week for 10 years straight. Shout out to the locals who keep showing up to train, connect, and grow. 10 years teaching. 10 years training. 10 years in business. Here’s to 10 more. A night to remember with Master Rilion Gracie. Thanks to everyone who’s been part of it. This place is what it is because of you. Learn Jiu Jitsu

This is a good example of what I mean by a mix-up. By using this windshield wiper knee slide as a washout, you don’t aim to pass into side control, they will defend side control and you help them overextend their recovery, giving you a mix-up position. From the top, I call it a checkpoint. From this checkpoint/mix-up, you could either pass the legs, go behind, or submit. The value here is much higher than just being in side control. aiming for this mix-up, this checkpoint, gives you chances for actual effortless. This is what I mean when I say aim for the mix-up.
