If your spirituality is...
• Designed by you
• Filtered through your preferences
• Evaluated only in terms of how it makes you feel
…you alienate yourself from undergoing the disruption required for growth.
When you develop a taste and a hunger for Goodness, you grow alert to it in others. Some people stick out to me, their lambent faces aglow with inner light. In writers, their words glitter with goodwill and sizzle with a repudiation of cynicism.

One really subtle sign?
They’re incredibly reliable… but never ask for help.
They show up. They deliver. They’re “fine.”
Bills paid, jokes intact, responsibilities handled. From the outside? Solid.
Inside? Exhausted, overwhelmed, barely keeping their head above water.
A few other quiet tells people miss:
•They downplay everything with humor: “It’s nothing, I’ll manage.”
•They’re always busy not productive-busy, avoidance-busy.
•They give great advice but never apply it to themselves.
•They disappear socially, then resurface like nothing happened.
•They rest, but never feel rested.
•They’re high-functioning… only because stopping feels dangerous.
The scariest part?
People assume they’re strong, so no one checks in and they don’t want to be a burden.

The goal: knotted OTHERWISE
Not dissolution. Not rigidity.
A different knotting.

An under-discussed side effect of everyone becoming chronically online is widespread “modality sickness:” a sort of depressive psychosis that emerges when most of our sensory channels become dormant from lack of use. The full human being is multimodal, meant to receive information in many forms: layers of sounds, movements in the air, textures. The more online we are, the less diverse our sensory experiences are; the mind paces around in a one or two-dimensional sensory flatland like an animal in captivity. We desperately need to re-embody ourselves and relearn how to think in many modalities

On Narcissism 🧵
Ovid’s myth, written around 2,000 years ago, tells us almost everything we need to know about narcissism. It is nothing new. Narcissus and Echo is not a story about vanity, it is a story about relationship. The wish to be seen without the risk of being known.
