I wrote this a year ago. As this administration continues to use football to advance its white nationalist politics, I think the central question of the piece has become even more pressing. nytimes.com/2017/08/21/opini…

Heartbroken and speechless today. But I just want to say: Charles Mills, you lived a life of impact. Thank you for sharing it and you with us. Forever Missed.

Reading Charles Mills’s The Racial Contract changed my life and my view of what Philosophy could be. I only met him once but he was as kind and warm as he was brilliant. Thanks to Liam for this beautiful tribute.

This might be the most overlooked part of the Alston ruling. Don't overlook it. The NCAA's biggest legal shield has broken, declared as dicta evermore.

I...agree with Justice Kavanaugh apparently?
Everyone reading the NCAA v. Alston decision should also carefully read Judge Kavanaugh's concurring opinion eviscerating the NCAA's arguments and addressing the NCAA's restraints in a broader sense than the decision itself. A few notes: 1/n
1
Kavanaugh wrote a concurring opinion, although he also joined Gorsuch's opinion, to basically write that he is ready to take on the other NCAA compensation rules not at issue in this appeal.

NEW: In a victory for college athletes, SCOTUS unanimously invalidates a portion of the NCAA's "amateurism" rules. The court says the NCAA can no longer bar colleges from providing athletes with education-related benefits such as free laptops or paid post-graduate internships.

Are you a nonblack person who constantly sends gifs or memes of Black people? Let's have a talk about digital blackface. Nicholas Whittaker (@nwhittaker10) discusses why it's been thought to be wrong... and why they think it's actually wrong. aestheticsforbirds.com/2021/…

This was a great (and eye-opening) episode. Minor league baseball is yet another industry exempt from FLSA and paying its employees minimum wage. Given the enormous wealth generated by MLB, this situation is unconscionable.
1/ NEW on @reveal🎙️ We’re bringing you stories from @Marketplace's podcast The Uncertain Hour. They're looking at how businesses legally get around providing minimum wage + other worker protections. In this episode, they investigate minor league baseball⚾️revealnews.org/podcast/minor…

@KarenKilgariff I just had to stop the podcast when you mentioned Sundance channel because I want to IMPLORE you to watch Rectify, which was on Sundance back in 2016 or so. It is SO GOOD and not enough people have seen it!
2
@karenkilgariff the main character is released from prison after 20 yrs b/c DNA evidence exonerates him of his gf’s murder when he was 17 in the 90s. Life is totally different now but his small town still believes he’s guilty & he isn’t sure either. It’s beautiful & gripping.
