Quality Church Reordering Here, level access has been achieved at a Grade I Medieval Church. Stone paving was laid leading up to the door with new jamb stones inserted to lower the level, also a smart new flush iron drainage channel fixed at the threshold. The solid oak door was carefully designed and proportioned to appear in the style of joinery from the medieval period. Attention to detail included Marian scribe marks to the surfaces of the door, a gothic Marian drop handle, hot nailed studs, and traditional straps and pintles, all of which were hand forged from wrought iron. A combination of lime and linseed oil was used to protect the exposed surfaces of the door.

Look what we (the building profession) can do when we try.....doing this only takes a little more effort over the bland housing estates we have come to accept. Well done to those that had the vision here!

⭐️The Lighthouse Battery Excavation ⭐️ 📍 Today marked the start of the week long community archeological excavation to investigate the former Lighthouse Battery on the Headland. 💡 The Lighthouse Battery and its sister sites, the Heugh Battery and Fairy Cove, were first conceived in the wake of the Napoleonic Wars to protect Hartlepool - at the time an important port and ship-building centre - from attack by sea. The batteries were first constructed in 1860 and were repeatedly updated over the following decades. The Lighthouse Battery is understood to have been demolished and completely infilled in 1956. 3️⃣ There have been three lighthouses on the cliff top at Hartlepool, with the first standing from 1846-1915. This was probably the first successful gas-lit lighthouse in the world, fuelled entirely by natural gas from nearby coal mines. This lighthouse was taken down during WWI to improve the line of fire for the Heugh Battery. A temporary light was then built on the Town Moor. This was used until 1927 when the current lighthouse was built. ⭐️ Now The ‘SeaScapes’ scheme, an exciting coastal heritage and conservation partnership, funded by the National Heritage Lottery Fund, that explores the story of the Tyne to Tees Shores and Seas seascape from prehistory to the present day and is funding this excavation in an attempt to discover more about Hartlepool’s former past. 📹 Watch this short video with Dr Emma Watson, Team Leader at Tees Archaeology to find out more about this excavation. ⌛️ We’ll be keeping you updated as the excavation progresses.

And is that acanthus growing next to it?
The Corinthian capital from the Temple of Hadrian at Cyzicus is the largest capital known to date. It is 2.5 metres in height, 1.9 metres in diameter and 20 tons in weight. It was unearthed in 2013. Picture with me for scale.
