I'm telling you I think mastodon might be a win er. It's established and been around for years, lots of people already there, and functionally you can use it like Twitter. With a built in culture of adding descriptive text to images and content warnings on posts.

Yeah I don't think it's malicious at all, the app/service just isn't ready yet. It may be later. But I'm enjoying mastodon now so I won't likely need it.

Your usernames aren't unique, there's currently no web browser, and the engagement has been minimal for me.

I jumped to try it quickly based off a bunch of other people moving over. But the app is borderline non-functioning, they're a tiny team that doesn't know what they're doing and how to handle a huge surplus of users, without moderation or privacy tools set up.

I am no longer there, as the Android app is currently unusable, and there are a variety of moderation, privacy, and safety concerns. Maybe I'll revisit in the future.

Still really enjoying it, and recommend people consider it as a Twitter alternative. It took me like 30 minutes to get it set up such that I basically have a tweetdeck layout, so don't let the instances and whatnot scare you. Strong vibes of the good ol' forum days too.

It feels like peek 2012 comics Twitter to me. Lots of fun engagement and conversation.

You can also click "local" for a feed of all posts by people from your server/instance, and "federated" from basically like all of the. It's kind of like being part of a subreddit. Doesn't really change much since you can follow whoever you want and whatever topic and hashtag.

Yeah it seems like it really doesn't matter, so I joined one a couple friends are in. Each server technically has its own rules and regs so make sure it's not something you hate. Basically one you set up your follows like here, you can set up a home view of their toots

I love it. Its like tweetdeck functionally. getting way better engagment than with hive. Much easier to use.

Yeah I think that hive is just no new it'll be hard to see how it goes. Seems more instagram-ish with app dependence and stuff. Mastadon feels like old school forums meets twitter now that I'm getting into it.
