The new Avalanches album is another mix of bittersweet and nostalgic house collages, successfully emulating their unique style. But the attempt at aestheticizing corporate jingles feels a bit messy and empty. It’s regularly a half-assed and cheesy embrace of marketing.

I say that as someone fishing in the same pool of samples. We have library and found-sound styles, but they were never an attempt at creating accessible dance music. To me, it’s too mellow and easy, missing some of the emotional bagage. It even misses the snark of vaporwave.
