It’s a big week for Stitch!🚀 We’re so excited to show you what we’ve been building, starting today with the official Stitch TypeScript SDK.
npm i @google/stitch-sdk
We designed our SDK for both humans and their agents to drive Stitch designs.
Call stitch from your code with simple methods like stitch.createProject() and screen.edit().
Use an agent-centric API stitch.listTools(), stitch.callTool("create_project", { }) and an AI SDK adapter for agentic workflows.
Live on GitHub and npm. Works seamlessly with Node.js and Bun.
Links in 🧵. Happy building! 🛠️

Sort-of Copilot for the terminal?!? 😱❤️
✨ Introducing `plz`, an AI-powered command generator. Kinda like copilot, but for your terminal.
It's ideal for all those weird unix commands that take dozens of flags, and you never know which ones to use (like ffmpeg).
(takes one command to setup 👇)

Problem: package.json doesn’t support comments.
Solution: Create a key that starts with // and ends with the target key. Put the comment in the value.
I just used this technique to document an override.

New blogpost up on web dot dev!
The large, small, and dynamic viewport units — New CSS units that account for mobile viewports with dynamic toolbars.
These units ship in Chrome 108, joining Safari and Firefox which already have support.

Uh, that's cool!!
TIL that @GitHub has added a new feature to GitHub-Flavored Markdown to adapt blockquotes to Notes and Warnings (also known as "admonitions")
Syntax is super simple:
> **Note**
> This is a note
> **Warning**
> This is a warning

Problem: JavaScript’s Date is lousy. So we often need to use a library instead.
Solution: Temporal.
Temporal is a new top-level namespace. Temporal provides a modern Date/time API, built in JavaScript.
It’s in Stage 3, so coming soon!

Problem: In React, it's often tricky to hunt down the component that's rendering a piece of UI.
Solution: LocatorJS (A Chrome plugin)
I've been using it for the last week. It's 🔥.

CSS Tip! 🚀
You can select the previous siblings of an element with :has() to create cool hover effects like this OS dock🔥 No JS 😎
:root{--lerp-1:0.525;}
a:has(+a:hover){
--lerp:var(--lerp-1);
translate: 0 calc(var(--lerp) * -75%);
}

These kind of plugins can definitively help with UI-less component testing 😊
Testing with @TestingLib is great. But debug using screen.debug is frustrated sometimes. I made github.com/nvh95/jest-previe… to improve DX by previewing the UI in the browser when writing @fbjest tests. What does it offer? A thread.

Introducing "Learning Patterns": patterns.dev - a free 435+ page book on JavaScript + React design & performance patterns from @lydiahallie and I. On the web, ePub & PDF.

ALT Patterns.dev is free book on design patterns and component patterns for building powerful web apps with vanilla JavaScript and React. We publish patterns, tips and tricks for improving how you architect apps for free. Keep in mind, design patterns are descriptive, not prescriptive. They can guide you when facing a problem other developers have encountered many times before, but are not a blunt tool for jamming into every scenario. Patterns.dev aims to be a catalog of patterns (for increasing awareness) rather than a checklist (what you must do).
