This week I facilitated a session on "Adaptive Leadership" for d leadership team of Christian Aid in West and Central Africa at their retreat. In d course of d session, we laughed, we argued, we diagnosed d real problems behind the real problems. Absolutely had a great time.

🚨Paul Scholes on Manchester United’s humiliating 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth:
🗣️ Paul Scholes: “This is the lowest of the low. Honestly, this is one of the most embarrassing runs I have witnessed in Manchester United’s history. I’ve seen this club go through difficult periods, but what we’re watching under Michael Carrick is becoming impossible to defend.
“Of course, you don’t expect the board to come out and say this is just another day at the office, because a second heavy defeat on the bounce cannot be just another day in the office. Someone has to answer.”
“Carrick understands what Manchester United means to the supporters, which makes this even more frustrating. He knows the standards, he knows the expectations, yet he’s taking this club in the wrong direction. At this point, I genuinely believe he’s one step away from losing his job.
“His signings have been utterly disappointing, and his obsession with this midfield pivot is absolute nonsense. Santos and Baleba, with Tielemans playing as a number 10? What exactly are we trying to achieve here?
“When I saw Bruno Fernandes on the bench, I burst out laughing. Carrick thinks establishing control means dropping his most productive player! Bruno speaks up, he gets benched. Cunha shows his frustration, he gets benched. Martinez reportedly has fitness issues, yet the timing of his absence raises questions after he spoke about the ownership and the coach.
“This isn’t discipline. This is a manager who appears to be confusing authority with control. You cannot keep punishing players and expect the football to improve. Carrick is making decisions to show who’s in charge instead of making decisions that give Manchester United the best chance of winning.
“And Bournemouth came to Old Trafford and played United off the park! Evanilson kept finding pockets of space behind Maguire and Heaven, and our defenders looked completely lost. Heaven had an absolute disaster of a game. Yoro was having a decent afternoon until one crucial moment exposed him, and United were punished. That’s football at this level: one moment can tell you whether a player is ready for the responsibility.
“But where was the organisation? Where was the response? Where was the manager changing anything to stop the damage? We looked like a team waiting for somebody else to solve its problems.
“I don’t think Carrick should come out to apologise. An apology won’t fix this. I think he should seriously consider handing in his resignation because the supporters deserve better, the players deserve better, and this football club deserves better.
“Losing 4-1 to Como in the Champions League was already humiliating, but losing 3-0 to Bournemouth at Old Trafford is a different level of disgrace. You cannot keep embarrassing this club and expect the supporters to accept another speech about learning lessons. How many lessons does one manager need before we admit he may not be capable of doing the job?”
“Michael Carrick has to take responsibility. Not the players he has benched, not the referees, not bad luck. HIM. He picked the team, he made the decisions, and he watched Manchester United collapse at home.
“If he believes he can turn this around, then he needs to show us something immediately. Because right now, I’m struggling to see a plan, an identity, or a reason to believe things will improve.
“Manchester United is not a club where you learn how to manage at the expense of millions of supporters. If Carrick cannot handle the pressure, he should walk away before he causes any more damage. This club made him who he is in football, and the least he can do is recognise when his decisions are hurting it.”

I hope Carrick has the mind to resign first before he is shown the door.
The leadership didn't back him properly, but I don't see any evidence he has tried to shape this team in any image resembling him.

🚨Roy Keane on Bruno Fernandes’ performance after Manchester United’s draw against ten-man Tottenham:
🗣️ Roy Keane:
“I can understand why some Manchester United fans feel Carrick should be sacked. I really can. These players play like they have absolutely no sense of responsibility.
I’ve always had reservations about Bruno, but tonight, I just can’t keep my mouth shut. He was absolutely awful. Misplaced passes, dreadful ball-carrying, poor decisions name it, he was doing it.
And what disgusted me most was seeing him lose the ball, go down and start appealing for a foul instead of getting back up and fighting to win it back.
You’re the captain of Manchester United! Get up and do your job!
Under Sir Alex Ferguson, if a captain went down that easily, left his position exposed and appealed for a foul that wasn’t coming, the next day he’d be sitting on the bench. And don’t be surprised if that armband ended up on somebody else’s arm.
Nobody was bigger than the team. Nobody!
Carrick has made these players too comfortable. They behave as though anything is acceptable, as though they can deliver poor performances every week and still expect their places to be guaranteed.
Well, anything is NOT okay at Manchester United!
And Bruno going away with Portugal and performing makes this even more frustrating. You know he’s capable of better, so why are we seeing this version of him at United?
The opposition had ten men, and we still couldn’t take control. Where is the leadership? Where is the urgency? Where is the captain who grabs the game by the neck when his team is struggling?
You’re paid to lead this team, Bruno, not just to wear the armband. If you’re the worst player on the pitch, you have to accept the criticism that comes with it.
I’m not interested in reputations. I’m interested in performances.
And let me make one thing clear: if Manchester United decide Carrick isn’t good enough and sack him, then Bruno’s performances must be examined just as seriously. You cannot keep blaming managers while the same players continue making the same mistakes.
If Carrick is getting sacked for these performances, then Bruno should be going with him! You cannot demand accountability from the manager and give the captain a free pass. That armband comes with responsibility, and right now, I’m not seeing enough of it.
If Carrick has failed to get the best out of these players, that’s one problem. But if the captain isn’t leading by example, that’s another problem entirely. United need a manager who demands standards and players who are prepared to meet them.
And if Bruno cannot deliver that consistently, someone else should be given the opportunity.
This is Manchester United, for crying out loud! It’s embarrassing at this point.
Under Sir Alex, your reputation wouldn’t save you, your name wouldn’t save you, and that armband certainly wouldn’t save you.
You either perform, take responsibility and lead this club forward or you make room for someone who will. That’s Manchester United!”
Exactly 1 month today, you saved me from what could have been disastrous.
Lord, I thank You!!!
