If that's actually all they're doing it for, you can be sure that new friend group doesn't have much ground for them to stand on either. Unfortunately I've also experienced the reverse. With some friends I just feel myself disconnecting as we get older. Imagine my surprise when one day a friend suddenly told me, that they feel like I don’t speak with them much anymore, because I've gotten too popular for them. I'm sure there's people out there that actually act like this, but it's not always a popularity contest for everyone. People can drift apart naturally. Pattern recognition is a bitch sometimes.

Have you guys had any instance where a friend suddenly became really popular in the fandom (not outside) and they just drop their friend circles (yourself included) for popular people? Had it happen twice and I think it's such a weird mentality to have ngl
