Say what you will but this was actually the era of sober-minded government in Jersey City.

Here's the photo. The Lipski Era in Jersey City really was quite amazing.

Definitely response bias here but very lopsided result in favor of the original, taller version of the proposed Westview project.

Maybe even segment fragments should be factually correct?
Maybe watch the full segment, not just a clip in a post intended to pique your interest so you can watch the full segment, which, even though longer than this clip, is not enough time to adequately explain the full story on a show that tries to cover the whole state. Watch maybe.

I shop at Whole Foods but have never once driven to the one downtown. In a dense urban environment like Jersey City, you can do so much without a car. It’s nice to have the freedom.
Demolition scaffolding in Journal Sq. First national grocery built w/ no parking in JC will go up here, in a 55-story tower with 800 apts, also car-free. I dont shop at Whole Foods, but hopefully other grocers will follow their footsteps and open car-free urban supermarkets here.

.@GovSherrillNJ — when does NJ get an expansion / integration of the HBLR and Newark light rail? Where’s our grand vision for funding and expanding transit in our densest counties?
under Hochul, New York is undergoing the most ambitious transit expansion in half a century: IBX, SAS phase 2, and now the 125th st subway very excited to vote for her!

Which version do people prefer? The original proposal, which is taller, has more apartments, and a larger park space but no income-restricted units or the shorter buildings with affordable housing paid for by a PILOT? Poll below 👇
The Westview project at Culver Ave & Route 440 in Jersey City is moving again after four years in limbo. On Monday the developer brought two versions to the JCRA: 3,079 homes in four towers of 30-56 stories, or 2,780 homes in four 20–22-story towers.

More amazing opportunities for transit-oriented development in Jersey City… …if the current administration and council let the city’s growth continue.

The “best” thing about @JerseyCity removing public trash bins near me is the increase of people throwing their trash into whichever private home bin happens to be nearby. Instead of investing in more bins or easily emptied containers, the city shifted another problem to us.
Jersey City's policy on removing curbside garbage bins is trash!

Onwards to New Jersey!
This should be funded immediately and the Phase 2 boring machine should just continue onwards!

According to some rough figures vetted by a friend who is a muni budget expert, the net present value of lost revenue of the rent control ordinance is ~$2B, 30x as much as the PILOT would've cost that wouldve covered these Newport tenants and actually added 18 low-income units.

Exciting developments (literally) are proposed along the Jersey City-Hoboken border that will bring a new light rail station, public plaza, and 1,200-1,500 new apartments. It will require a rezoning so tell your council members to support this plan.
The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (“HBLR”) hasn't added a new station since 2011. Lincoln Equities wants to build one at 18th St and Erie St, on the Jersey City–Hoboken border. Last night they brought the plan to the JCRA board. 1/🧵

A PILOT agreement paid for below-market apartments and a new PILOT agreement is required to sustain those low rents. Portside spoke out against that PILOT and the previous council voted it down. But that PILOT would cost the city a fraction compared to expanded rent control.

If you want to decimate the city’s tax base, destroy future housing production, and displace a lot of current homeowners who won’t be able to absorb tax increases needed to off-set rent control in big buildings, then by all means vote for this ordinance.

Rent control will do several things at once: 1) it will depress property values in modern high rises whose owners will file tax appeals; 2) it won’t add more affordable units for low-income people; and 3) it will provide a MASSIVE subsidy to wealthy renters in market-rate units.

Some members of the Jersey City Council are proposing the city destroy its tax base and make it harder to build new rental housing. Can anyone guess what type of ordinance was introduced at caucus today?

This is good. Do more of this. Commit to the plan for one-way pairs to eliminate conflicted left turns next. The new one-way streets will be wide enough for dedicated lanes for buses, Via, and emergency vehicles.
I am committed to making our streets safe for pedestrians. Today I’m announcing the next phase of our efforts: we’ve identified 17 of our most dangerous intersections for “turn hardening” safety improvements.
