A Prayer for the United States of America
Saturday, October 24, 2026
Father, we come before You on behalf of the United States of America, seeking Your wisdom, mercy, and guidance. For far too long, we have looked to elections, political leaders, and new laws to heal our divisions and secure our future, hoping they would bring us together and move our country forward. We have allowed our differences to overshadow the common bonds and shared responsibilities that unite us as Americans. We recognize that lasting change must begin in our own hearts. Humble our pride, expose the bitterness we carry, and teach us to seek Your wisdom above our own understanding. Shape us according to Your will, and let the healing of America begin with each of us.
“But now, O LORD, You are our Father, we are the clay, and You our potter; and all of us are the work of Your hand.” Isaiah 64:8
We lift up all who serve in public leadership, from the President and members of Congress to our governors, judges, and local officials. Grant them wisdom, sound judgment, courage, and a genuine commitment to serving the people who entrusted them with their votes. Remind them that their offices carry a responsibility to the American people and that their decisions should be guided by integrity, justice, and the good of our nation. Teach us to hold those entrusted with public office accountable while treating them with grace and discernment, even when we disagree with their decisions.
“Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right.” 1 Peter 2:13-14
Lord, we lift up the families across this country who are struggling under financial burdens and uncertainty. You know the worry of parents trying to provide for their children, the burden of rising bills, and the uncertainty faced by those working hard without knowing whether it will be enough. Provide for their needs, open doors to opportunity, and give them hope to face each new day. Move us to recognize those who are struggling and to offer meaningful help wherever we can. Above all, draw us closer to You and remind us that our hope rests in Your faithfulness, even in our darkest moments.
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
We ask You to soften our hearts toward one another. Our opinions so easily overshadow our duty to love and respect our neighbors. We are quick to criticize, slow to listen, and more intent on being right than being kind. Teach us to speak with wisdom, listen with patience, and treat every person with genuine respect. Give us hearts to bear each other’s burdens, rejoice in each other's blessings, and care for those who suffer. Bridge the divides between us, and replace our arguments with understanding and goodwill, so that we may reflect Your love to one another.
“So that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.” 1 Corinthians 12:25-26
Watch over the men and women of our armed forces wherever they serve. Protect them in times of danger, strengthen them when they grow weary, and grant them wisdom, courage, and steadfastness in the duties before them. We also pray for our police officers, firefighters, and emergency responders as they carry out their duties each day. Watch over them as they serve their communities, and give them sound judgment, courage, and strength in every challenge they face. We pray as well for the families of all who serve, who carry the burdens of separation, uncertainty, and concern for their loved ones. Comfort them, sustain them, and bring those serving far from home safely back to the people who love them. May we never take these sacrifices for granted, but honor them with gratitude, respect, and support.
“The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8
Father, strengthen our character and deepen our faith. Remind us to keep doing what is right, even when progress feels slow. Teach us to learn from our mistakes, grow through our struggles, and place our hope in Your unfailing love. Strengthen our churches, our families, and our communities. Let our trials produce greater compassion, our challenges deepen our dependence on You, and our faith give us the courage to face the future with hope. May we emerge from these times with a clearer understanding of what truly matters and a renewed commitment to living according to Your Word.
“And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and perseverance, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Romans 5:3-5
We place the United States of America in Your hands. Thank You for the freedoms we continue to enjoy and for those who have sacrificed so much to preserve them. Help us honor their sacrifices by living with integrity, serving our neighbors, and taking our responsibilities as citizens seriously. Guide those elected to represent us, strengthen the American people, and direct our country toward justice, compassion, and truth. Above all, turn our hearts toward You. May Your wisdom guide our decisions, Your love shape our relationships, and Your truth direct our future.
We ask all these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Sovereign God, we’re asking You to do for this country what we clearly can’t do for ourselves. We’ve spent years arguing over who’s right instead of getting on our knees and asking for Your help. Humble us now, before hardship finally brings us to our knees.
“And My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
Father, give everyone elected to serve this country wisdom that goes deeper than political instinct. Give the President and every official entrusted to act on the people’s behalf deep discernment, and keep their decisions grounded in what is right, even when it costs them.
“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5
God, so many families across this country are under financial pressure, watching every dollar closely. Provide for them generously, and teach us to look out for each other, the way we’d want to be looked out for ourselves.
“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.” 2 Corinthians 9:8
Christ, teach this country what it means to be one body. Teach us to meet disagreement with respect, and fill our hearts with gratitude for one another.
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.” Colossians 3:15
Give courage to our police officers and firefighters as they face danger in the line of duty, and to every soldier, sailor, airman, and marine serving this country. Surround them with Your strength, and bring them home safely to the people who love them.
“So he answered, ‘Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’” 2 Kings 6:16
Give us hope that rests entirely on You, steady and strong through every season.
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD and whose trust is the LORD. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream, and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought, nor cease to yield fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7–8
We trust this nation to Your care, and we ask You to make us worthy of the sacrifices of all who fought for and built this country.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
