News from the sports journalism transaction wire: After 29 years, 11 1/2 months, I'm headed for free agency. I've got another game to cover, so it's not bye just yet, but here's my attempt to tell you what's it meant, and say thanks pilotonline.com/sports/vp-sp…

For everyone asking, “how is this legal?” It’s not! He gathers with his right foot on the floor and would be permitted two steps by rule (left-right). He takes four steps after gathering the ball and travels.

Sources: An injunction was granted in California for the Glancey V. NCAA case, giving all members of the Class of 2022 involved eligibility through the end of the 2026-27 college basketball season.
The NCAA will appeal.
"Injunction-driven roster build" is all the rage.
Trey Kaufman-Renn gives Kansas a better chance to bounce back in March.
But is this injunction-driven roster build really how Bill Self should want his final chapter to look?
One GM: “It’s mercenary off-brand G League basketball.”

Not so minor point. They told Kelsey and everyone else what the rules were. Most coaches followed them. Several chose to support legal challenges and sign those players. Which of course is their right, but they can't say they didn't know what the rules are.
"We needed to touch the stove." Great stuff here, including some humbling scrimmage footage. About as honest and unvarnished a look behind the scenes of a D1 program as you're going to get.

First #UVA player to receive the preseason nod since Malcolm Brogdon in 2015-16. Brogdon then won year-end Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
So some will be eligible, and some won't, depending on where their case was heard? Indiana, yes? South Carolina, no? To cite a couple of states.

The math on James Madison's Sun Belt-to-American move is fairly simple, even at a reduced share.
The American distributes an avg of about $7 million to its members in TV money every year.
The Sun Belt's deal gives its membership in the $1 million range.

Per ESPN sources, the timing of this JMU move comes in part because the Sun Belt had been attempting to raise the exit fees. The league was meeting about that this week and voting later in the week, which sped up this process of the Sun Belt.

Quite the operation. I realize they are being inclusive, including support staff, etc., but I can't recall seeing a team pic with that many people.

Great piece by Jeff on a UVA athletics institution, the longest-serving member of the department, in his 44th (!) year.
In athletic training, Ethan Saliba is the gold standard, as generations of student-athletes will attest. It’s hard to imagine UVA Athletics without Saliba, but his legendary tenure is about to end. He’s retiring after 43-plus years with @VirginiaSports.
