Ichiro Suzuki had 256 hits with three games left in 2004. George Sisler's record of 257 had been sitting there since 1920.
On October 1 he singled off Ryan Drese to tie it. A couple of innings later, on a 3 and 2 count, he singled up the middle to break it.
He finished the year with 262.
He didn't play his first major league game until he was 27, after nine seasons in Japan.
He still put together 10 straight 200 hit seasons, the longest streak in MLB history. Best pure hitter, Ichiro or somebody else?

JUST REMEMBERED: when Governor Newsom imposed draconian mask mandates on ordinary Californians, he and his wealthy cronies were dining mask-free in upscale French restaurants. That’s what not giving damn about you looks like.
