LOL
Let’s be honest.
This is a bad movie. That is the problem.
I don’t care that it is offensive. The Birth of a Nation is vile. Triumph of the Will is propaganda for one of the most murderous regimes in history. They are still important films because the people making them understood cinema, construction, escalation and visual storytelling.
This appears to be a festering pile of shit assembled backwards from X arguments.
“Queers for Palestine are idiots.”
“Campus protesters are useful idiots.”
“Islamists secretly despise the Western left.”
“Universities are full of cowards.”
“Actually the conservative guy was right all along.”
Fine. Make that movie.
But you still have to write a fucking movie.
Why do the terrorists need the protest? Why seize the university? What do they actually want? What strategic advantage does holding a campus give them? Why cultivate political allies only to start murdering them? If they already have enough armed men to capture an American university, what exactly have the students enabled?
There are potentially nasty, provocative, intelligent films buried in that material. You could build a near-future America where the geopolitical pieces have shifted enough that a temporary alliance between revolutionary leftists and Islamists becomes plausible, give both factions coherent goals, and then watch the alliance tear itself apart.
Instead somebody seems to have started with “wouldn’t it own the libs if the gay Palestine guy got thrown off a roof?” and reverse-engineered ninety minutes around getting him up there.
That isn’t fearless filmmaking let alone a movie that should be getting awards.

Back in the day, after each Emmy ceremony, you could go to Showmax to catch up on some of the winners you missed that season.
But what DSTV giveth, Canal Plus hath now taken.

Pre-colonial history; magic; comedy.
Q for the TL: what’s a Nigerian book that should be a film by now?
Quite a lot. First that comes to mind is Big mummy @ohiaofeh
Additional question; what themes would you like to see receive more attention in contemporary Nigerian lit?
